Note on
Loading the incubator correctly greatly influences
loading the unit
the temperature conditions inside the chamber.
A
In practice, incubators are often loaded not only beyond the
lateral boundaries of the working space, but also with
stacks of Petri dishes which are too high.
If culture yessels are stacked, their surfaces come into
contact with each other (e.g. Petri dishes). This means the
stated temperature variation will be exceeded if the stacks
consist of three or more single items.
However, it is not only important that the preset tempera-
tures be kept inside the chamber; in some instances,
temperature must recover within an appropriate period of
time after the test materials have been introduced. This
point is less important when dealing with long-term
incubation projects (over 72 hours) so that more dishes can
be crammed into the available space.
With relatively short incubation projects, on the other hand,
(up to 72 hours), overloading must be avoided, because the
temperature recovers too slowly even if there is only one
layer of Petri dishes. Here in particular, attention must be
paid to the fact that good temperature recovery is
guaranteed only if the test material is distributed evenly
throughout the entire working space.
Don't arrange the load too closely on the shelves (load only
70% of their area), to not impair air circulation and to
ensure uniform heating.
