Thank you for selecting the HRC-050 landscape sprinkler controller . Hydro-
Rain
®
designers have combined the simplicity of mechanical switches with
the accuracy of digital electronics to give you a controller that is both easy
to program and extremely versatile . The Hydro-Rain
convenience and flexibility, letting you run a fully automatic, semi-automatic, or
a manual watering program for all your watering needs .
Please read this manual completely before you begin to program and use the
controller . A few of the most notable design features include:
at-a-Glance simplicity
Turning the rotary dial to one of ten settings allows you to review programming
or easily make changes .
arm Chair programmable
For convenience you may chose to program the HRC-050 using battery power
prior to plugging it into primary power supply .
Fail-safe program
If under any circumstance both the battery power and the primary power
are lost to the HRC-050, all custom programming will be lost . Upon primary
power restoration, the factory safe watering mode will activate a watering
cycle of 10 minutes per station per day until you reprogram with a customized
schedule . Tip: Install a new battery every season to avoid a loss in customized
programming schedule (there is a brief 2 minute delay in program loss so the

Water Budgeting Mode
The programmable water budgeting feature is ideal when adjusting to seasonal
watering demands . Instead of reprogramming, adjusting watering duration, the
"Budgeting" mode on the programming dial will enable easy adjustments . This
function will allow adjustments to watering duration in ten percent increments
from 50% – 150% . During the spring when a reduced watering requirement is
needed simply decrease the watering percentage then as temperatures seasonally
increase, adjust the "Budgeting" upward . For example, a budget percentage set at
70% will alter a 10 minute preset watering duration to 7 minutes .
Using Water Budgeting Mode
Note: A budget set at 100% will water the full duration that is currently set in the
HRC-050 program.
• Step 1: Turn the rotary dial to Budgeting. The display will show BUDGET with
three digits and % .
• Step 2: Press and hold the + or - keys to select the percentage in increments
of 10% . (Example: For example, a budget percentage set at 70% will only
water for 7 minutes if the watering duration is set for 10 minutes .)
• Step 3: To activate the water budgeting, press Enter.
• Step 4: Turn the rotary dial to any other position to finish programming.
• During a watering cycle the time displayed will be the water budget adjusted
time .
• The water budget percentage setting affects all stations regardless of
program assignment .
• To return to normal watering duration set the budgeting percentage to 100%.
