1 Introduction
The Sandberg Network Adapter (referred to as
the "network card") enables you to connect your
computer to a network and an ADSL/broadband
connection if you have one. A network allows
you to copy files, share programs, play network-
enabled games etc.
2 Installation of the network card
1. Switch off your computer and disconnect all
the cables.
2. Open the case.
3. Remove the cover plate on the rear of the
computer next to a free PCI port. If you are
unsure which ports in your computer are PCI
ports, look in the instructions for your
motherboard or computer.
4. Carefully insert the network card into the PCI
socket so that the metal flange is located
where you removed the cover plate. Fasten
the network card to the computer case.
5. Close the case, connect all cables and start
Windows.
NB: During the following installation process
Windows may need files from your original
Windows CD-ROM.
2.1 Installation in Windows
1. When Windows starts, the associated software
is installed automatically. All you have to do
is restart your computer when installation is
complete.
Your Sandberg Network Adapter is now installed
and ready for use.

3 Introduction to networks
In a network, computers are connected to each
other to make it possible to transfer files and
share resources with other computers on the
network.
3.1 Internet connection
Using your network card together with an
ADSL/broadband internet connection normally
causes the network card to be configured
automatically. If you still experience problems,
please refer to the user guide for your internet
connection or contact your internet service
provider for further information.
3.2 Cables etc.
To physically connect computers on a network
you need to use a network cable. You need to
use one of the following cables depending on
whether you are setting up a network via a
hub/switch or as a direct connection between
two computers:
• Direct connection between two computers
This type of connection requires a crossover
cable. These often have a colour marking.
(Sandberg's crossover cables are always blue).
• Connection via a hub/switch
This type of connection requires a standard
UTP network cable (non-crossover). These are
typically white or grey.
NB: When connecting to the internet via
ADSL/broadband, please refer to the user guide
for your internet connection or contact your
internet service provider for information about
setting up the connection.
