Push the power harness connector -2- into the associated socket on the control unit -3-, until it perceptibly
engages.
−
Plug the buzzer connector -4- into the associated "BUZ" socket on the controller -3-, until it "clicks" into the fixed
position.
−
Refit the control unit bracket (see page 3; fig. 3; -2-) in the reverse sequence.

−
Unwind approximately 50 mm harness protective tape on the vehicle wiring in the side part at the rear left.
−
Cut the vehicle's black/blue wire to the tailgate light (black multiway connector) and insulate the wire ends.
−
Crimp one end of the black/blue wire -1- in a supplied crimp connector -4-.
−
Crimp the free end of the black/blue wire -2- together with the red wire -3- of the power harness in the crimp
connector -4-.
−
Heat-shrink the crimp connector -4- to seal it, using the hot air blower from the -VAS 1978- wiring repair set.
−
Replace the harness protective tape.
−
Degrease the panel for fitting the retaining plates -6- with a suitable cleaner, e.g. industrial alcohol.
−
Attach the retaining plate -6- supplied.

−
Degrease the fitting site (right hand side of the boot) for the summer unit -1- for the parking distance control system
using a suitable cleaning agent, e.g. industrial alcohol.
−
Fit the buzzer -1- in the boot using the double-sided adhesive tape.
−
Connect the black wire from the wiring kit to the vehicle earthing point -arrow-.

Inside the bumper covering are four square markings to permit mounting of the sensors. The drilling positions are the
centre points of these squares.
−
Draw the drilling spots on the inside of the bumper covering and center punch the drilling points.
Pre-drill the holes using a ∅ 2 mm drill bit.
−
Use a ∅ 20 mm Forstner bit to drill the holes from the outside.
−
To counter rotating of the sensors, an upward-pointing notch -arrow- about 1 mm deep is needed in the boreholes.
−
File an upward-pointing notch -arrow- with a small triangular file in all four boreholes.
−
Remove the swarf from the holes for the sensors in the bumper covering.
−
Take the parcel shelf and the boot mat out of the vehicle.

The supplied sensor harness -7- consists of four individual sensor wires. These sensor wires are numbered from 1 to 4.
When routing, the sensor wire marked with 1 should be placed in the left hole drilled -3- (facing in the direction of travel).
The remaining sensor wires 2...4 must be fitted consecutively, therefore wire 2 in drill hole -4-, etc.
−
Route the individual sensor wires along the inside of the bumper covering to the drilled holes -3- to -6-. Pull the
cover outwards (see page 6, Fig. 3, -6-) through the drilled holes.
−
Secure the sensor wires -7- using two socket cable ties -2- to the hem of the bumper covering.
−
Secure the wiring harness -7- with four cable ties -1- to the existing wiring of the number plate light.
