Westward Operating Instructions and Parts Manual
Operation
Always wear safety glasses, gloves, and other appropriate protective equipment when operating
the drain cleaner.
It is extremely important to be aware of these precautions and to perform these
inspections. DO NOT use the machine if any damaged, torn or worn parts are found. Replace them
with genuine parts before use. Failure to do this may cause serious injuries or even death.
Set-Up
1. Inspect gloves provided with this machine to make sure
they are in good condition. Improper or damaged
gloves could be caught in the rotating cable and cause
injuries or death.
2. Inspect the cable for any damage or wear. A cable that
is improperly used or damaged will twist, kink, or
break, which may induce injuries or more serious
problems.
3. While the machine is unplugged, inspect the power
cord for any cuts or wear. Inspect the GFCI and the
plug for any damages.
4. Inspect all controls and handles for any damages or improper functions and make sure they are
free of grease or oil, which may cause slips and induce improper operation.
5. Inspect the machine for any improper assembly, loose parts, unsmooth motion, torn labels,
abnormal look, or any conditions that may indicate an unsafe and abnormal operation.
6. Inspect the cutter(s) for any dullness or damage.
7. Plug in the machine and test GFCI with the procedure given in the Electric Safety section to make
sure it works properly.
8. Put the Rotation Switch to FORWARD position (index finger side in). Depress the Power Switch
and make sure the drum turns in the FORWARD direction (
the Cable Feeder Lever down). If the Power Switch does not start the machine, do not use the
machine until the switch has been repaired. Move the Rotation Switch to REV to test if the drum
turns in the opposite direction.
9. For 22XP35 with Cable Feeder, turn the Cable Feeder Actuator on the Cable Feeder Front to F (for
forward feeding). Put the Rotation Switch to FORWARD. Push the Cable Feeder Lever down and
depress the Power Switch to test if the Cable moves forward. Improper moving or non-motion
may indicate a damaged Cable Feeder. If the Cable Feeder does not work properly, make sure the
testing steps are performed correctly. Clean the Cable Feeder components by following the steps
given in the Maintenance section. Then repeat the test for proper operation.
