Westward Operating Instructions and Parts Manual
Do not use REV rotation to pull the cable out of the drain. Always run
the machine with the Rotation Switch set to FOR position, whether you are feeding the
cable into the line or pulling it out.
12. When the cutting tool is near the drain opening, take your foot off the Foot Switch to stop
drum rotation. Never retract the cutting tool from drain while cable is rotating. The cable
could whip and cause serious injury.
Cable Clamping with Cable Lock Screw
This machine is designed with a Cable Lock Screw. When
strong resistance is met, put the Cable Feeder Level at the
middle position. Tighten the Cable Lock Screw when letting
the cutter chew the stoppage.
Do not use the Cable Feeder when the Cable
Lock Screw is tightened. Using the Cable Feeder with the
Cable Lock Screw being tightened will cause damage to the
machine, which may result in personal injury. So please
remember to release the screw whenever the Cable Feeder is used.
Special Operations When Cable Gets Stuck In Line
The motor can be reversed to free cable if the cable gets stuck in the line by using the following
procedure:
1.
Turn the Rotation Switch to REV position, and push the Cable Feeder Lever to Middle
position
2.
Depress the Foot Switch a few seconds and pull the cable back while the drum is rotating in
Reverse direction.
3.
When the cable has been freed, set the Rotation Switch to FOR position.
Do not run motor in Reverse direction for more than a few seconds at a time since
this could cause cable tangling in the drum or kinking.
Special Operations When Cable Tangles in Drum
To untangle cable, rotate drum in the REV direction with hand. This will usually get the cable to lie
in the drum properly.
: You MUST turn the Rotation Switch to OFF and take your feet away from the
Foot Switch. Failing to do this may cause accidental starting and injury.
If cable becomes severely tangled, which should not occur when used properly, you will need to
replace it with a new cable.
Operation with Torque‐Adjusting Thumb Wheel
This machine is equipped with a torque‐adjusting Thumb
Wheel for limiting the torque applied to belt and prevent
cable damage with regular operation. When the torque
transmitted from the cable reaches the limit set by the
Thumb Wheel, the belt will slip on the pulley. This will
prevent the cable from twisting or kinking.
The torque has been pre‐adjusted properly in manufacture,
and in most cases will never need to be adjusted.
