4. Select models only: Remove the hardware (F,
Figure 11) securing the recoil rope pulley (G) to
the grass bag adapter. Also remove the right rear
recoil bolt on the engine (H).
5. Select models only: Install the grass bag adapter
brace (I, Figure 11) between the grass bag
adapter and the engine. (Make sure the bent end
of the brace is toward the engine.) Secure the
brace to the grass bag adapter with the removed
components, as shown. Secure the other end of
the brace to the engine with the supplied hex cap
screw (J) in place of the bolt removed in Step 4.

6. Route the recoil rope around the outside of the
rope guide pulley (E, Figure 10).
NOTE: The recoil rope may need to be slackened.
Refer to the section entitled "Starting the Mower".
Installing the Mulching Plug
(Optional Accessory on Some Models)

WARNING

DO NOT attempt any maintenance, adjustments or
service with engine and blade running. STOP engine
and blade. Disconnect spark plug wire and secure
away from spark plug. Engine and components are
HOT. Avoid serious burns, allow sufficient time for all
components to cool.
1. Install the mulching plug (A, Figure 12) if mulching
is desired after the bag adapter is installed. Install
the mulching plug completely and securely into the
bag adapter (B).
2. Install the grass bag as a safeguard and to further
secure the mulching plug.
WARNING
!
Install the grass bag when using the mulching plug.
Failure to do so may result in personal injury or death.
3. Refer to the Section entitled "Mulching Operation".
