Drawbar must be used in
the RISE position only.
1.
Remove underbody panel - Using a flat head screwdriver and 10 mm socket, remove (4) rivets, (2) nuts respectively from driver side underbody panel. Remove the panel.
2.
Lower exhaust– Using an exhaust hanger removal tool, lower muffler by removing (2) rearmost rubber hangers. A spray of lubricant or soapy water on rubber hangers makes them slide
off metal pins more easily. NOTE: Be sure that exhaust is properly supported before removing rubber hangers.
3.
Remove heat shield – Using a 10 mm socket, remove (3) nuts from exhaust heat shield. Remove the heat shield.
4.
Enlarge holes – Using a flat head screwdriver, remove rubber plug and cover from rearward attachment holes and access holes, both sides. Using a grinder, enlarge the forward
attachment hole diameter to 1/2" on both sides, see Figure2.
5.
Trim underbody panel & heat shield – Using a tape measure, marker, tin snip, and utility knife, measure, mark, and trim the area on the panel and heat shield as shown in Figure 3 & 4.
6.
Install hitch – . Feed the carriage bolts ① and spacers ② to attachment holes through access holes using the pull wires ⑤, see Figures 1 & 2. Leave pull wires attached. Reinstall the
trimmed heat shield with (1) nut at trunk pan stud location. Raise the hitch into position and feed the pull wires through bracket holes. Remove pull wires and loosely install conical
washers ③ and hex nuts ④ to the hitch.
7.
Tighten all 7/16-14x1.25 GR 5 fasteners to 50 ft-lb (68 N*m).
8.
Reinstall the underbody panel and exhaust. Note: (2) nuts and (1) rivet from underbody panel and (2) nuts from heat shield will not be reinstalled after trimming.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A
hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a
torch. This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
