Move the lever towards the front of the appliance to
u
raise the height of cut.
Push the height adjustment lever into one of the 6
u
height locations.
NOTE: The height of cut can be viewed on the height of cut
gauge (11) on the side of the unit (fig. L).
Switching on and off (fig. M)
Switching on
Push the power button (1).
u
Pull the left or right ON/OFF switch (3) towards the handle.
u

Switching off

Release ON/OFF switches (3).
u
Warning! Never attempt to lock a switch in the on position.
Mowing (fig. N1 & N2)
We recommend to use your mower as outlined in this section
in order to achieve optimum results and to reduce the risk of
cutting the mains cable.
Place the bulk of the mains cable on the lawn, close to the
u
starting point (position 1 in fig. N1).
Switch the appliance on as described above.
u
Proceed as shown in fig. N1
u
Move from position 1 to position 2.
u
Turn right and proceed towards position 3. The cable
u
management system will slide from one side to the other,
ensuring the extension cord is kept away from the cutting
blade.
Turn left and move towards position 4.
u
Repeat the above procedure as required.
u
Warning! Do not work towards the cable as shown in fig. N2.
Up to edge cutting (fig. O, P)
Up to edge cutting allows you to cut grass right up to the edge
of a wall or fence (fig O).
Up to edge cutting allows you to accurately cut grass right up
to the edge of your lawn (fig P).
With the lawnmower parallel with the edge of your lawn,
u
push the lawnmower along the edge of the lawn. Ensure
that the edge of the mower is slightly over the edge of
your lawn (fig.P).
Removing Blade (Fig. Q, R)
Note: BDMOW1400 use new winged blades which improves
collection vs previous range of mowers. Blade accessories
Cat # 34cm A6320.
Warning! Ensure the blade has completely stopped and
disconnect the mower from the power source.
Cut a piece of 2x4 wood (16) 305mm to keep blade from
u
turning while removing flange nut.
Turn the appliance onto its side. Wear gloves and proper
u
eye protection. Be careful of sharp edges of blade.

Position piece of wood (16) to keep blade from turning
u
as shown in Fig. Q.
Use a 13mm wrench (18) to loosen and remove the
u
blade bolt by turning counterclockwise.
Pull off blade (17), as shown in Fig. R. Examine all pieces
u
for damage and replace if necessary.
Installing Blade (Fig. S)
Place the blade (17) onto bolt shaft with the lettering on
u
the blade facing out, and place the blade bolt (20) onto the
bolt shaft.
Tighten the blade bolt as firmly as possible by hand.
u
Position piece of wood (16) to keep blade from turning
u
as shown in Fig. S.
Use a 13mm wrench to securely tighten the blade
u
bolt by turning the wrench clockwise.

Blade sharpening

Keep blade sharp for best mower performance. A dull blade
does not cut grass cleanly. Use proper eye protection while
removing, sharpening, and installing blade. Sharpening the
blade twice during a mowing season is usually sufficient under
normal circumstances.
Sand causes the blade to dull quickly. If your lawn has sandy
soil, more frequent sharpening may be required.
Note: Replace bent or damaged blade immediately.
When sharpening the blade:
Make sure blade remains balanced.
u
Sharpen blade at the original cutting angle.
u
Sharpen cutting edges on both ends of blade, removing
u
equal amounts of material from both ends.
To sharpen blade in a vice (fig. T)
Be sure the blade has stopped and the mower is
u
unplugged before removing the blade.
Remove blade from mower. See instructions for removing
u
and installing blade.
Secure blade (17) in a vice (21).
u
Wear proper eye protection and gloves and be careful not
u
to cut yourself.
Carefully file the cutting edges of the blade with a fine
tooth file (22) or sharpening stone, maintaining the angle
of the original cutting edge. Check balance of blade. See
instructions for blade balancing.
Replace blade on mower and tighten securely.

Blade balancing (fig. U)
Check balance of the blade (17) by placing centre hole in
the blade over a nail or round shank screwdriver, clamped
horizontally in a vice. If either end of the blade rotates
downward, file along the sharp edge of that dropping end.
Blade is properly balanced when neither end drops.
