INSTRUCTIONS
ART. 1469C
Brake pipe flaring tool
Before using this tool make sure you are familiar with provisions
concerning hydraulic systems.
Brake Pipe Preparation:
1. The pipe end must be cut square and perpendicular to the pipe axis.
2. The outside edge must be chamfered approximately 0.25 x 45°.
3. The pipe dimensions must not exceed the value on the die.
4. If the pipe is covered with a protective film, this must be removed for 3 mm from the end to flare.
Make sure that the pipe does not get damaged during this operation. Do not use any abrasive
substances on the pipe surface. Blow any debris from the pipe after flaring.
Use:
A. Clamp the tool in a vice. Fit the lever onto the cam. Loosen the lever-controlled nut and open the die
clamp. (Fig. 1)
B. Consult the table and select the die and punch designed for the required application. Fit the die into
the slot as shown, with the flare facing the lever, making it touch the back nuts. (Fig. 2)
C. After preparing the pipe as instructed, fit in the stop nut of the system, placing it at the back of the
die. Fit the pipe into the die, to make its end flush with the die. Make sure that both dies touch the
back stops. Close the die clamp and tighten the dies. Make sure that the pipe and dies are still placed
correctly. (Fig. 3)
D. Select the punch according to the table. Some fittings require two flaring operations. Carry out the
first operation, making the punch slide on the tool, until it is flush with the die. (Fig. 4)
E. Pull the lever until the punch nut and the die touch each other. Return the lever to its original position.
If the second operation is required, slide the punch in line with the die and repeat the operation.
Release it all; remove the punch, and if the die is stuck, gently tap on it, until it is released. (Fig. 5)
F. Make sure that the end result meets the required standard.
Important:
The punches and dies supplied with the tool are meant for use only with it.
