Instruction Leaflet

RS twin cartridge half-mask respirators are designed to use the
RS filter system; which incorporates combination gas and dust
filters using pre-filter pads and a pre-filter retaining cover, which
may be ordered independently from the gas filter. The RS range
of half-masks and filters are designed to meet the new European
standards. The mask is approved to EN 140 and the filters EN
141 or 143. Before using the respirator read the instructions
carefully and completely; they must be fully understood and
followed to obtain adequate respiratory protection.
Limitations of use
The respirator is not for use in oxygen deficient (below 19%
volume) or oxygen enriched (above 25% volume) atmospheres.
Do not use the respirator for fighting fires, sandblasting, or for
protection against contaminates not covered on the cartridge
warning labels. Care should be taken as this respirator does not
protect eyes or skin against vapours or gases that may irritate or
burn when adsorbed by, or that penetrate the skin.
Before use
It is important that the selection of filters for the appropriate
hazard and the initial fitting of any respirator should be
supervised by a competent person, who should also determine
the life of the filter during the use of the hazard encountered.
Change filters frequently. As a minimum, filter must be changed
if breathing resistance increases, or the smell of the hazard
sensed. Pre-filter pads should be changed more frequently. The
respirator should fit comfortably on the face and should contain
the correct filter cartridge for the envisaged hazard. Ensure that
all the components are clean and in good condition.
Note: Beards or simular facial hair are likely to prevent an
acceptable fit. The respirator should be stored in it's bag,
away from direct sunlight and contaminates.
Fitting instructions
The head straps should be positioned to fit comfortably and
firmly on the head. The top strap should be placed over the top
and back of the head then the lower strap fastened behind the
head. Straps should not be twisted or cover any part of the ear,
adjustments should be made via the four elastic attachment
points. The wearers chin should fit well into the bottom of the
face-piece. To check the efficiency of the fit, place a piece of
card in front of the filters and inhale sharply, the respirator should
contract onto the face.

Notice
RS twin cartridge half mask uses two cartridge filters
with grey right hand thread connectors.
Maintenance
A) Changing the Pre-filter pad: Remove pre-filter cover, dispose
of pre-filter pad in a hygienic and safe manner. Insert new
filter pad and re-fit cover.
B) Changing the filter cartridge; First remove pre-filter cover
and unscrew the filter cartridge. Remove from the mask,

together with the connector, and dispose of in a hygienic and
safe manner. Clean the respirator, as described in C). Re-fit
using a new filter and a new Pre-filter, if required.
C) Cleaning the respirator; The respirator should be cleaned
and checked for worn or damaged parts after each shift, or
on each fitting if the respirator is not used continuously. If the
filter is to be used again, do not remove it from the mask,
simply clean the filter with a cloth dampened with warm
soapy water and dry with a clean cloth. Water must not enter
the filter cartridge. To carry out a more thorough cleaning of
the respirator, remove the filter cartridge and the exhale
valve and wash the complete respirator in warm soapy water
and dry. Re-fit the components in the reverse order from
which they were removed. Particular care should be taken
not to damage the inhalation or exhalation rubber valves.
The condition of these valves should be checked at least
weekly and if deterioration is apparent, the filter and valve
should be replaced. On a twin mask the exhale valve should
be fitted in the centre hole.
DO NOT USE SOLVENTS,STRONG DETERGENTS, BLEACHES
OR PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS TO CLEAN EITHER THE
MASK OR, MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE RUBBER VALVES.
WARNING: Immediately leave the work area and change the
