LINEAR 3 MANUAL
1. ENGINEERED FOR
POWERFUL PERFORMANCES
Though a poorly equalized setup is often the culprit behind
mediocre sound, undesirable reflections can also muddy your
sonic image. Most of the energy emanating from the speakers
doesn't travel directly to the ears of your audience, instead
bouncing off ceilings and walls and losing its focus along
the way. That wreaks havoc with your sound.
The pros solve this problem the «easy way»: They «fly» speaker
arrays, suspending them from the ceiling and lining them up to
zero in on the audience.
The average user rarely enjoys the luxury of that option.
Most venues are too small, ceilings are too low, or stages lack
a front transom. The effort and expense involved in «flying»
a rig makes it all but impossible.
At last there is a practical solution, courtesy of HK AUDIO:
the new DuoTilt™ speaker stand mounting collar. Offering two
adjustable angles, it lets you adapt your rig to the size of the
room and height of the stage and aim the speakers directly
at your audience. Sound energy is utilized far more efficiently,
and bothersome ceiling reflections are minimized.
In addition, the LightGuide™ Display makes it easy for you to
align speaker cabinets and prevent the sound from bouncing
off the walls.
Furthermore, the Sound Field Selector lets you adjust the high
frequency range so that the sound always suits the location.
You end up enjoying sound everywhere, even in rehearsal
rooms and smaller venues.
But even the most amazing features won't do you much good
if the cabinets' fundamental sound is inferior. The LINEAR 3™
Series, like all HK AUDIO systems, is built for superior perfor-
mance. All of the components - speakers, crossovers, horns
and enclosures – were hand-selected and matched to deliver
big yet transparent sound, and were painstakingly fine-tuned
to render acoustic signals, particularly the human voice, with
awe-inspiring accuracy and naturalness.

2. THE LINEAR 3 CABINETS'
CONTROL FEATURES
2.1 LightGuide™ Display
The LightGuide™ display continuously indicates
the cabinets' current operating status, making
monitoring easier and enhancing operational
safety. The Signal LED lets you focus the sound
energy on a horizontal plane to avoid
undesirable reflections and cancellations.
In addition, it indicates the Sound Field
Selector's setting - yellow for Close,
green for Regular.
The Signal LED lights up as soon as
a signal is routed into the cabinet.
The Peak LED illuminates to indicate that
the cabinet is being driven at the limit of
its power handling capacity.
The Signal LED indicates the speaker's sound field
(or the main area of coverage):
• If the LEDs light up (green or yellow, depending on the
Sound Field Selector's setting) bright and distinct, the
system's sound is clear and punchy within this hearing range.
• If the LEDs light up dim and indistinct, the system's sound
within this sound field may be less punchy and detailed,
i.e. the level has arrived at -6 dB.
LightGuide™ Display modes:
• GREEN: Incoming signal is detected,
• YELLOW: Incoming signal is detected,
• RED:
Caution:
If the PEAK LED lights up red continuously,
back off the volume at the mixing console.
If you fail to do this, you risk damaging
the speakers.
NOTE: The SIGNAL LEDs light up when they detect an incoming
signal. After cords are disconnected from speakers, the SIGNAL
LEDs continue to light up for some 10 to 15 minutes.
This is by design, so that the LEDs are able to indicate the
system's operating readiness even during musical intermissions.
