alternate paths to ground through probe cables and associated instruments.
Patient burns may result.
If at all possible, remove the probe from patient contact before activating
the surgical unit or other RF source. If probes must be used
simultaneously with electrosurgical apparatus, the instruments attached to
the probes should be checked for adequate isolation from RF grounds.
Hazards can be reduced by selecting a temperature monitoring point
located away from the expected RF current path between the active probe
and the return pad.

Cleaning and Disinfection

Cleaning and disinfection of a probe, and optional connector cable if used,
is recommended after every patient procedure. Proceed as follows:
1. Clean with a soft cloth moistened with 70% isopropanol,
activated dialdehyde (Cidex) or sodium hypochlorite (1 part
bleach diluted with 10 parts water minimum).
2. Wipe from one end to the other, being careful not to apply
excessive pressure that could stretch the cable jacket and break
the internal wires.
3. Disinfect by briefly immersing the probe and optional connector
cable into the same cleaning solution, being careful to avoid
immersing the connectors. Immersion of the cable for 2 minutes
or less is not harmful, however prolonged immersion could cause
a loss in cable flexibility.
4. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
Note: Philips Medical Systems does not make any claims as to the
efficacy of these chemicals for infection control. Please consult your
medical facility's Infection Control Officer for the applicable
disinfection policies.
