• The device does not automatically select the voltage of the battery. Ensure that the battery is connected according to
the correct voltage, either 12 or 24V.
When the battery is charged, the electrolyte will 'boil'. When this occurs it is recommended to stop the charge to avoid
damaging the battery.
Charging multiple batteries simultaneously
You can charge multiple batteries simultaneously by connecting them in parallel. Connect the positive terminals to the
red clamp and the negative terminals to the black clamp. These batteries or group of batteries must all be the same
voltage, either 12 or 24V.
Charging in series is not recommended.
USE IN START MODE
Precautions before use
• Do not disconnect the battery from the vehicle. Disconnecting the battery may result in loss of data and a possible
inability to restart.
• The "START ENGINE" mode can detect sulphated batteries and in this event it will not start. The device will start an
automatic desulphation process prior to starting the battery to protect the vehicle electronics.
• If the battery is damaged, sulphated or too deeply discharged, starting is prevented in order to protect sensitive
vehicle electronic systems. In this event, the Startium shows intermittently "CIP" (Charge in Progress) and 0%. Battery's
recovery is in progress.
WARNING !
The DIAG-STARTIUM 60-24 is able to start a 6V vehicle but it may be necessary to double the preload time (10 min).
Starting
Once the starter connected to the battery (see connection and disconnection) press key 9 to select the "START ENGINE"
mode. When this function is activated a precharge will start. Pressing any key will stop this mode.
DIAG-STARTIUM 60-12
DIAG-STARTIUM 60-24
By turning the key you activate the starter function.
If your engine does not start, wait 2 minutes between two start attempts. The attempt must last a maximum of 5
seconds.
Nb: A vehicle that will not start can be a problem other than a battery in poor condition. It could come from many other
causes.
After use follow the recommended instructions for disconnection.
TESTING THE ALTERNATOR
A test function of the alternator is available using key 11. It will indicate the charge capacity of the alternator by
displaying the voltage and the percentage.
Between 0 and 100% = The battery is not charged enough.
At 100% = Alternator ok.
Between 100% and 200% = Overcharge.
PROTECTION
This device has been designed with comprehensive protection functions:
• The charging clamps are fully insulated.
• A fuse provides protection against reverse polarity and short circuits. It can be easily replaced by the user.
• Thermal protection is provided by a thermostat (cooling time around 1/4h). The fault LED lights up in case of
overheating, the screen displays "TH".
• This device is equipped with a thermal proctection which will stop the power supply in case of over-heating. Allow 15
minutes for the unit to cool-down and place it in a well ventilated room.
• In case of a power supply problem, the device will stop, the fault LED only will lash and the screen will display "DEF".
If the problem is excessive an internal fuse protects the device. This fuse must be replaced by a qualiied technician.
