Before Use
• Carefully unpack and inspect your power drill. Fully familiarise yourself
with all features and functions of the tool.
• Ensure that all parts of your power drill are present and in good condition.
If any part is missing, or damaged, have such parts replaced before
attempting to use this tool.
Operating Instructions
Side handle
• The Side Handle (7) should always be used when drilling.
• Always hold the drill firmly using both hands.
• The side handle can be adjusted to best suit the work to be performed.
• To adjust the side handle, rotate the handle grip anti-clockwise, this
will loosen the handle assembly. Move the side handle to the required
position, and secure by rotating the handle grip clockwise.
Operating the chuck
• The Chuck (1) can be opened by holding the rear chuck ring, and rotating
the front chuck ring anti-clockwise.
• To tighten the chuck, hold the rear chuck ring, and rotate the front chuck
ring clockwise.
• Do not run the drill to tighten or release the chuck. Doing this will cause
permanent damage to your tool.
On/off switch
• To start the drill, squeeze the On/Off Switch (5).
• To stop the drill, release the on/off switch.
Lock on button
• The drill is equipped with a Lock On Button (4). This allows the on/off
switch to be locked into the 'on' position for tasks that require extended
continuous running.
• To use the lock on function, depress the lock on button whilst squeezing
the on/off switch, the on/off switch can then be released and the drill
will continue to run.
• To stop the drill, squeeze, then release the on/off switch.
Speed control
• The speed of the drill can be varied between 0 and 3000rpm.
• The speed is adjusted by rotating the Speed Control Dial (6).
Reversing
• The direction of the drill can be changed using the Reverse Switch (3).
• To run the drill in a clockwise direction, push the reverse switch to
the right.
• To run the drill in an anti-clockwise direction, push the reverse switch
to the left.
• Do not attempt to move the reverse switch whilst the drill is running.
• Do not attempt to run the drill with the reverse switch in a mid position.
Hammer selection
• The drill can be used in either hammer drill mode (for masonry work),
or conventional rotary drill mode (for wood, metal etc).
• To select hammer drilling mode, slide the Hammer Selection Switch (2)
to the right.
• To select rotary drilling mode, slide the hammer selection switch to
the left.
• Do not attempt to move the hammer selection switch whilst the drill
is running.
Drilling concrete
• Using hammer drill mode, apply pressure to the rear of the drill, in
line with the drill bit.
• For efficient drilling, it is advisable to use TCT (tungsten carbide) drill bits.
Ensure that drill bit size is within the maximum capacity of the drill (see
specifications).
6
• Do not apply too much pressure if debris blocks the drill hole. Run the
drill slowly, and remove the bit from the hole. Repeat until hole is cleared.
Drilling wood
• Use rotary drill mode only.
• Ensure that drill bits are suitable for wood, and are within the maximum
capacity of this drill (see specifications).
Drilling metal
• To ensure accuracy, mark the intended hole position using a hammer
and centre punch.
• Use rotary drill mode only.
• Ensure that drill bits are suitable for the grade of metal being drilled, and
are within the maximum capacity of the drill (see specifications).
• To ensure efficient cutting, and prolong drill bit life, use a suitable
lubricant or cutting fluid.
CAUTION
Applying excess pressure does not result in faster or more efficient drilling.
If the pressure applied to the drill has a noticeable effect on the speed
of the drill then reduce the pressure. Overloading the drill will reduce its
service life.
As the drill bit penetrates the material being drilled, it may "catch" or
"snag". This can cause the machine to suddenly "kick", to prevent any
possibility of injury always hold the drill securely, use the side handle, and
use sharp drill bits.
Always ensure that material is secure. If appropriate use a vice or clamp
to hold the work, always keep two hands on the drill.
Maintenance and Disposal
Cleaning
• Disconnect the machine from the mains supply before cleaning.
• Keep your machine clean. Always clean dust and particles away,
and never allow ventilation holes to become blocked. Use a soft brush,
or dry cloth to clean the machine, if available blow through the ventilation
holes with clean, dry, compressed air.
Replacement brushes
• Over time, the carbon brushes in the motor will wear away. This wear
process will be accelerated if the machine is used in dusty environments,
or if the machine is overloaded.
• If the brushes have become excessively worn; motor performance may
decrease, the machine may fail to start, or excessive sparking may be
observed.
• If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have them replaced at an
authorised service centre.
Disposal
• Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic
equipment (WEEE), with household waste.
• Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the proper
way to dispose of power tools.
