Controllable Pan/Tilt B/W Dome Camera
1 Applications
This camera in a dome housing for ceiling mounting has
especially been designed for use in video surveillance
systems. It is equipped with a fixed focus lens, an automatic
electronic shutter, an automatic electronic gain control
(AGC), and a backlight compensation.
The control of the camera (panning and tilting) can e. g.
be made via the remote control RMA-350 (up to 99 cameras
can be controlled).
2 Safety Notes
The camera corresponds to the directive 89/336/EEC for
electromagnetic compatibility.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it against
humidity and heat (admissible ambient temperature
range 0 – 40 °C).
For cleaning the dome housing only use a dry, soft cloth,
by no means chemicals or water.
Never touch the lens with your fingers. For cleaning it,
only use special detergents for optical lenses.
No guarantee claims for the camera and no liability for
any resulting personal damage or material damage will
be accepted if the camera is used for other purposes than
originally intended, if it is not correctly mounted or
connected, or not repaired in an expert way.
If the camera is to be put out of operation definitively, take
it to a local recycling plant for disposal which is not harm-
ful to the environment.
3 Basic Settings
3.1 Terminating resistor
The DIP switch No. 1 (6) on the lower side of the camera to
be connected as the last camera at the end of the RS-485
control line has to be set to position ON (even if only one
camera is connected). Thus, the control line is terminated
with an internal resistor. Do not set this switch to ON on the
other cameras.
3.2 Camera address
The camera is factory-set to address 1. To control several
cameras, each camera must be set to an individual address
with the DIP switches (5). For this purpose remove the
housing dome (4). Slightly turn the dome to the left until it
disengages. Remove the cover (3). [The cover is secured at
the lower edge by two latches opposite to each other]. Now
the DIP switches are accessible.
The address results when adding the binary values (1, 2,
4 ... 128) of the DIP switches set to position ON, e. g.:
address 1
address 10
(= 8 + 2)

The easiest way is always to start from the highest possible
binary value and to add the smaller values until the address
results as a sum.
4 Mounting
1) Replace the cover (3), if necessary, and close the camera
with the housing dome (4).
2) Tightly screw the mounting plate (1) to the ceiling in such
a way that the arrow (a) of the plate (fig. 4) points to the
centre of the surveillance area so that the camera is
capable of panning to the left and right in a uniform way.
3) Place the camera on the latches (10) of the mounting
plate so that the arrow in fig. 3 also points to the centre of
the surveillance area. Then turn the camera slightly to the
right so that the latches lock into place.
5 Making the Connections
1) Connect the RS-485 control line (7) e. g. to the remote
control RMA-350. The control line can be extended with
a twisted, 2-pole line to a length of 1200 m. Connect all
cameras in parallel to this control line.
2) Apply the video signal at the BNC plug (8) via a screened
cable to the video input of a monitor. With a cable length
exceeding 100 m, a video amplifier should be inserted
between the camera and the cable to compensate cable
loss.
3) For power supply, connect a regulated 12 V power supply
unit via a low voltage plug 5.5/2.1 mm (outside/inside
diameter) to the inline jack (9). In any case, observe the
polarity: Apply the positive pole to the inside contact of
the plug. As soon as the operating voltage is applied, the
camera goes to its initial position.
