Description
Input/Output-expansion module MSI-EM-IO84
3.1.1
The module MSI-EM-IO84 is an expansion module within the
system MSI 400 and it provides eight safe inputs and four safe
outputs. Features of the MSI-EM-IO84 are:
Monitoring of safety switches and sensors.
Transmission of data to the controller module MSI 4xx
Receiving of data from the controller module and switching of
the outputs
Fast Shut Off (direct switching of the outputs without data
transmission)
The module MSI-EM-IO84 does not operate independently. It
operates only in combination with a controller module MSI 4xx,
see the configurations-software MSI.designer.
The simultaneous use of several modules MSI-EM-IO84 and/or
MSI-EM-I8 is possible (up to twelve modules MSI-EM-IO84 and/or
MSI-EM-I8 overall in the system).
To supply the safe outputs, each input/output-expansion module
must be connected to an external voltage supply.
The module MSI-EM-IO84 provides two test signals for a cross
monitoring on the inputs. One test signal is provided on the test-
output X1, the other test signal is provided on the test-output X2.
Short circuit detection
MSI-EM-IO84 detects short circuits between the
two test-outputs (X1, X2), if the duration of the test
pulses is < 4 ms.
WARNING
If the duration of the test pulses is ≥ 4 ms, short
circuits between the test-outputs may remain
undetected
Input-expansion module MSI-EM-I8
3.1.2
The module MSI-EM-IO84 is an expansion module within the
system MSI 400 and it provides eight safe inputs and four safe
outputs. Features of the MSI-EM-IO84 are:
Monitoring of safety switches and sensors.
Transmission of data to the controller module MSI 4xx
The module MSI-EM-IO84 can not operate independently. It
operates only in combination with a controller module MSI 4xx;
see the configurations-software MSI.designer.
The simultaneous use of several modules MSI-EM-I8 is possible
(up to twelve modules MSI-EM-IO84 and/or MSI-EM-I8 overall in
the system).
Voltage is supplied via the internal safety bus.
The module MSI-EM-I8 provides two test signals for a cross
monitoring on the inputs. One test signal is provided on the test-
outputs X1, X3, X5 and X7, the other test signal is provided on the
test-outputs X2, X4, X6 and X8.
Short circuit detection
MSI-EM-I8 detects short circuits between the two
groups of test-outputs (X1, X3, X5, X7) and (X2,
X4, X6, X8), if the duration of the test pulses is
WARNING
< 4 ms.
If the duration of the test pulses is ≥ 4 ms, short
circuits between the two groups of test-outputs may
remain undetected.
Short-circuits inside of a group of test-outputs
(X1, X3, X5, X7) or (X2, X4, X6, X8) will not be
detected.
This has to be observed during the wiring of the
safety switches or sensors, e.g. by a separate
laying or by shielding the wires.
