To check the chimney is airtight, proceed as follows:
Block the hole on the roof.

j) It is very important for the chimney to stand out
by more than one metre from the highest part of
the house. If the draught is to be increased,
increase the height of the chimney.

The joints of the tubes forming the chimney, in
the event of using simple metal tubes, must be
sealed using refractory filler.
The wider part of the tubos must always be pointing
upwards to prevent any creosote from coming out.
k) The exterior metal chimneys must be built with
special double heat-resistant tubes for solid fuel.
2.2.5 Fitting to existing chimneys.
We recommend, when using existing chimneys, that
you place one or two metres of metal tube inside it to
ensure that the opening between the brickwork chimney
and the tubes is sealed (see figure below).
