Table 1 details the relationship of water temperature and time with regard
to scald injury and may be used as a guide in determining the safest water
temperature for your applications.
E. Filling the Heater
• Make certain any drain valves in the system are completely closed.
• Open the shut-off valve in the cold water supply line.
• Open the hot water faucets to allow air to vent from the heater and
piping.
• Allow sufficient time for the heater to completely fill with water.
• Check for and repair any leaks.
NOTE: If you detect a water leak from the water heater at this point, turn off
the water supply at the main shut-off valve and contact Customer Service.
When filling the water heater, open a hot water tap to release air in the
tank and piping. The tank must be full of water before the heater is turned
on. Failure to ensure the water heater is full before turning it on could
result in damage to the water heater and other property damages. Such
damages ARE NOT covered by water heater warranty.
Part 4 - Electrical Connection
Tank must be full of water before the power is turned on. The heating element will be damaged if energized for
even a short time while tank is dry. Failures due to "dry-firing" ARE NOT covered by warranty.
This water heater must be installed in accordance with all applicable local, state, provincial, and national electrical
codes. The heater must be connected to dedicated circuit breakers on the main electrical panel.
As with all electrical appliances, its crucial to first shut off all power to the unit directly at the fuse or breaker box
before attempting to install or repair this water heater. Ensure that all breakers are shut.
Failure to disconnect the power from the water heater before attempting to install or repair it will result in
property damage, severe personal injury, or death.
All wiring (wire gauge) as well as circuit protection (breakers) must comply with the National Electrical Code
(NED) in the USA or the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) in Canada, and should be done by a qualified licensed
electrician or the local electric utility. Failure to do so could result in property damage and/or personal injury
and void the product warranty.
NOTE: In Canada, the CEC generally requires that all supply wires and corresponding circuit protection used for
domestic hot water heating and hydronic heating applications be sized to a minimum of 125% of the maximum
current rating of the heater (kindly check the heater specifications below for details).
The voltage requirement and dedicated maximum amperage load for the heater is specified on the water
heater rating label. Consult your local power company to determine if your electrical service is adequate for the
additional load of the heater.
NOTE: 18 - 27kW models require 3 sets of wire and ground; 36kW models require 4 sets of wire and ground. See
Wiring Diagrams for additional information.
Be sure to ground the water heater. Failure to do so could result in property damage, severe personal injury, or
death.
1. Take each wire pair and connect them to one breaker (see Wiring Diagrams). Ensure that each breaker
is connected to one black wire and one red wire. Ensure the power to the unit is shut off by means of the
dedicated circuit breakers in the main electrical panel.
2. A suitable wire gauge which meets all applicable electrical codes for the size of the breakers should be used.
The correct set of power cable wires should be run from the circuit breakers in the main electrical panel to the
water heater. Connect the power cable to the terminal block within the water heater.
3. Each incoming circuit requires a separate ground connector.
4. DOUBLE CHECK the electrical connections to ensure their correctness as well as the tightness and secureness
of wire connections. Its important to confirm that the correct breaker size and wire gauge has been used
