OPERATION
Once the equipment has been wired up, switch on the supply. The battery changer will then switch over to the
charge mode as required, by the batteries (or by the load) connected. The battery charger provides a IUoU
charge. The SBC chargers can also be used as power supplies, i.e. when the batteries are disconnected. It is
advisable to use this operating mode only when necessary i.e. , not as standard use. In any case, avoid
connecting high inductive loads (i.e. high powered motors) with the batteries disconnected as this may cause,
even if rare, severe damage.

CHARGING CHARACTERISTICS

The charge takes place through two stages :
Constant-voltage stage: The charger charges the batteries at a constant voltage of 14.2 V,
providing the currents needed. If the batteries require more current than that provided during
ABSORPTION
the charging operation, the current is limited to the maximum output level. The need of the
current to the battery will tend to decrease with the time going. When the output current will
be less than 18% of the max. output rated current, the equipment will turn to FLOAT.
Battery charge maintained: The charger charges the batteries at a constant voltage of
13.6V. During this stage, the batteries, when fully charged, will tend to absorb currents of
FLOAT
nearly "0" A. This allows the charger to maintain the batteries charged at all times without
overloads. Turn from FLOAT to ABSORPTION takes place when the currents required exceed
the max. output rating of the charger by 18%.

DESCRIPTION
The battery charger is connected to the AC supply.
Short circuit or overload in output. Check output wiring, batteries
and equipment connected to the charger.
Battery charger not connected to the AC supply or the equipment is
overheated. If the latter is the case, check whether the equipment has been
installed correctly. Turn off the equipment and leave it to cool down for at
least 10 minutes.
The battery charger is being maintained.
