960 Roll Groover
NOTE! Groove diameter should be measured using a
Diameter Tape. Diameter should be within the
tolerance of the diameters shown in Table I or
Table II.
NOTE! To increase groove diameter, tighten adjusting
screw. To decrease groove diameter, loosen
adjusting screw. Each
change groove diameter by approximately .02".
6. Periodically check groove with a Diameter Tape or
similar measuring device.
Grooving Copper Tubing or 1" Steel Pipe
CAUTION
DO NOT attempt 1" stainless steel pipe
1. Advance the feedscrew (clockwise) until upper groove
roll contacts the pipe to be grooved.
2. Make sure the integral depth gauge is in the grooving
position. (Figure 10)
3. Adjust the integral adjusting screw until it is flush
with the top plate.
4. Find the diameter and type of pipe to be grooved on
Table B or Table C and back the adjustment screw
off the top plate to the corresponding turns. For
example, for 4" Sch. L copper, back the adjust-
ment screw 1

Roll Grooving Tips with 960

1. If pipe tends to "walk off" drive roll, clean drive roll and
increase offset dimension (Figure 6).
2. If cover plate shaves pipe end, decrease offset
dimension.
3. If pipe end flare is excessive, lower pipe end to level
with roll groover.
4. If pipe wobbles and/or "walks off" the drive roll, raise
pipe end to level with Roll Groover.
5. Short lengths of pipe (under three feet) may require
slight pressure to maintain the
dimension.
6. DO NOT attempt roll groove 1" stainless steel pipe.
May cause damage to the groover.

Grooving Short Lengths of Pipe

1. When running pipe in REVERSE, exert pressure on
pipe toward operator (Figure 9).
Do not attempt to groove any pieces of
WARNING
pipe shorter than 8". Increases risk of fingers being
crushed in the grooving rolls.
Removing and Installing Groove and
Drive Roll Sets
Remove the roll groover from the power
WARNING
drive and place on a work bench. Make sure power
