Handheld Edger
Modifying the handheld edger may
● ●
make it unsafe
Never modify your handheld edger,
except as advised by Kawasaki in writ-
ing. Use only Kawasaki supplied or
approved attachments and repair
parts.
Damaged or loose parts can break
● ●
off and injure operator
bystanders.
Always inspect your handheld edger
before each use. Check to be sure the
throttle works smoothly and snaps to
the closed position when released.
Never use a handheld edger with a
sticking throttle lever. Be sure the cut-
ting blade is fastened in place properly
and is not cracked, bent, warped or
broken.
Guard with flap must be in place to
● ●
prevent injury.
If the guard with flap is out of position,
flying objects or the cutting blade itself
can injure the operator or bystanders.
Before starting the engine, check to be
sure the guard with flap is fastened in
place properly. Never operate the
handheld edger without the guard with
flap installed.
Recoil starter rope can cause injury
● ●
if released suddenly.
When starting the engine, grasp the
recoil starter firmly by the grip. Do not
grasp the starter rope itself. Always
control the rope when it is being
rewined into the housing. Releasing
the starter rope suddenly may allow
the rope to whip around and injure you
or damage the recoil starter mecha-
nism.
Hard objects can damage the hand-

held edger or be thrown and cause
or
injury.
The handheld edger is for cutting
grass, weeds and small garden plants.
Before using the handheld edger,
clear your work area of hard, foreign
objects such as stones, glass, wire,
metal and trash. Make sure the cut-
ting blade has stopped before putting
the handheld edger down, also, be
certain the handheld edger is turned
off.
Proper maintenance is essential for

safety.
A well-maintained handheld edger is
safer and operates more efficiently.
Regularly check that the handheld
edger adjustments are made accord-
ing to the periodic maintenance chart
in the manual and replace worn or
damaged parts. If engine idling speed
is set too high, the cutting blade will
not stop when the operator releases
the throttle lever. A worn out or dam-
aged muffler can emit sparks and
cause a fire. Increased noise levels
can lead to hearing loss. Observe
maintenance schedule in this Owner's
Manual.
Store the handheld edger safely to

prevent fire or equipment damage.
To avoid fuel leakage and fire hazard,
always empty the fuel tank and run the
carburetor dry before storing your
handheld edger. Old fuel can clog the
carburetor and lead to hard starting or
poor running conditions. Store the
handheld edger in a dry, secure loca-
tion out of the reach of children. When
transporting handheld edger in a vehi-
cle, take precautions to secure it
against damage from falling over and
fuel spillage.
