Installation

Location
Choose a dry place well away from any heat source. High tem-
peratures can have a negative effect on the power output of the
equipment. Position the inverter close to the battery to reduce
power loss in the 12 Volt resp. 24 Volt cables as much as pos-
sible. It is better to extend the 220 Volt output wiring if required.
Do not place the inverter immediately above the battery; sul-
phur fumes from the battery can damage the electronic com-
ponents.
Fit the inverter/battery charger using the fitting parts supplied.

Connecting the Battery

BCC500, BCC600 and BCC1200
For wiring diagram, see page 50.
Connect the red terminal from the inverter/charger to the plus
(+) battery terminal and the black terminal to the minus (-) ter-
minal.
Use cables sufficient thickness and use the cable terminals
supplied. For clamping the terminal use suitable tooling, for
wire size selection table see page 49.
BCC1000
For wiring diagram, see page 50.
Unscrew the frontpanel.
Connect the red terminal from the inverter/charger to the plus
(+) battery terminal and the black terminal to the minus (-) ter-
minal. Use cables sufficient thickness and use the cable ter-
minals supplied. For clamping the terminal use suitable tool-
ing, for wire size selection table see page 49.
BCC1500 and BCC2000
For wiring diagram, see page 50.
Note: To prevent damage caused by mixing up plus (+) and
minus (-) during connecting the unit proceed as follows:
• Unscrew the frontpanel.
Connect the '+' clamp of the inverter/charger to the plus (+)
battery pole and the '-' clamp to the minus (-) pole.
Use cables of sufficient thickness and use the cable terminals
supplied. For clamping the terminal use suitable tooling, for
wire size selection table see page 49.
• If + and - are connected properly the green LED near the ter-
minals of the inverter/battery charger will light-up. Now wait
approx. 2 minutes, the capacitors inside the inverter/battery
charger will be charged. Insert then the knife blade type fuse
(160 A slow blow) into the fuseholder.
Never insert the fuse into the fuseholder if the green LED
doesn't light-up!
• After releasing the battery cables follow the aforementioned
procedure to re-connect the inverter/battery charger. Both
damage due to mixing-up plus (+) and minus (-) and sparks
during making the connection is prevented by doing so.
The knife blade type fuse can be easily removed and reinsert-
ed with the supplied tool.

WARNING
Heavy current through wiring that is too thin, or resistance
caused by bad connections, can generate excessive heat
and could cause a fire!

Mains Connections

Connect the inverter/charger to a 220 Volt (240 Volt) socket with
Earth connection, using the already connected mains cable.
Only use extension cables with properly earthed plugs and
sockets.
Earth
BCC500, BCC600 and BCC1200
The inverter/charger can be connected to the boat's earth
using the M5 bolt (
) on the control panel.
BCC1000, BCC1500 and BCC2000
The inverter/charger can be connected to the boat's earth
using the M5 bolt (
) located at the lower side of the hous-
ing.
WARNING!
Earthing 220 Volt (240 Volt) electrical equipment on board
a ship that is NOT connected to an earth-leak protected
dockside socket is only useful when there is an earth-leak
protection or a frame insulation installation (floating mains).
Please consult your installer for more information.
Furthermore, local regulations are applicable here, and
these differ from country to country, and the use to which
the boat is put is also important, as there are often special
regulations applied to commercial and especially passen-
ger shipping.
VETUS cannot accept any responsibility for the
inverter/charger if it is used in contravention to the local
regulations.
