Calibration
Place the unit on the surface to be scanned before pressing the
AMS and/or "On" button. Re-calibrate the sensor if switching to a
different material.Note: While calibrating, the
Stanley®MetalSensor must not be placed directly over a metal
object. Rugs, wet or newly painted surfaces will prevent the unit
from calibrating properly. If calibration is attempted over a metal
object, the unit will display the word "ERROR". Also, segments of
the LCD will flash and a series of 6 beeps will be heard. Move the
sensor to another location and try again. 1. Hold the
Stanley®MetalSensor flat against the surface, making firm contact.
2. Press the "AMS" and/or "AC" button. All indicators on the LCD
are displayed while the unit goes through its 2 second calibration
cycle. The word "CAL" will appear on the LCD (illustration 3) while
the unit is calibrating to the surface. Following the completion of
calibration, the unit will beep and the word "READY" will be shown
on the LCD indicating that the unit is ready to start scanning.
IMPORTANT: The unit cannot be moved before calibration is
complete.
USAGE OF METAL SENSOR
Detecting Metal Objects
1. Once the unit is calibrated, slide the unit across the surface in a
straight line horizontally. When an object is first detected, all
bars will be shown on the LCD. As the unit gets closer to a
metal object, less bars will appear (see illustrations 5A & 5B).
The unit will also sound an intermittent tone and the yellow LED
will light when a metal object is detected.
2. When the minimum distance is found, mark the position with a
pencil using the centre triangular recess.
3. Continue sliding past the metal object until the indicator bars
start to increase in number and the unit stops beeping.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 in the other direction.
5. The midpoint between the two marks is the object centre (see
illustration 4). Note: It is recommended to make multiple passes
from the left and right sides of an object to improve accuracy.
