replace a second primary amplifier in fault condition. The third backup amplifier can only replace the second backup am-
plifier, and so on for all the backup amplifiers present in the group.
NOTES
• When the system includes only one backup amplifier for one or more primary amplifiers, in order to obtain automatic acti-
vation of the backup amplifier in the event of a fault on the primary amplifier, it is not indispensable to couple the backup
amplifier with a RB 3300 back-amplifier board ("BACKUP" unit).
• The use of a "BACKUP" A.C.U. is indispensable when the backup amplifier must be monitored or must be able to
be replaced with another backup amplifier.
The A.C.U.s are divided into groups (max. 64 groups). Any number of "NORMAL" or "BACKUP" A.C.U.s can belong to a group, but the to-
tal number of units present in the system must not be greater than 120. A "NORMAL" unit can only be replaced with a "BACKUP" unit
when they belong to the same group.
By means of a dedicated menu on the control unit, the A.C.U.s can be activated or disactivated manually, in order to use or not use the am-
plifier controlled by the units for sound diffusion in a specific zone. When an A.C.U. is disactivated, the amplifier under its control is excluded
from the sound diffusion of a specific zone, and in its place the backup amplifier of the group, where present, is automatically activa-
ted, or the "BACKUP" A.C.U. is activated when the backup amplifier is controlled by means of a RB 3300 back-amplifier board.
NOTE
• The "NORMAL" units are normally ACTIVATED, while the "BACKUP" units are always normally DISACTIVATED.
Activation/disactivation of an A.C.U. ("NORMAL" or "BACKUP"), in the event of an alarm caused by a fault or malfunction of an ampli-
fier, can take place in "MANUAL" or "AUTOM." mode. The operation of the "NORMAL" and "BACKUP" units in the two modes is as follows:
• "MANUAL" mode on a "NORMAL" unit – Disactivation of the "NORMAL" unit, in the event of an alarm on the amplifier under its control,
• "AUTOM." mode on a "NORMAL" unit – Disactivation of the "NORMAL" unit, in the event of an alarm on the amplifier under its control,
• "MANUAL" mode on a "BACKUP" –
• "AUTOM." mode on a "BACKUP" unit – Activation of the "BACKUP" unit, in the event of an alarm on a "NORMAL" unit belonging to the
When more than one "BACKUP" unit in a group of A.C.U.s if configured with "AUTOM." mode, the order of intervention of these units in the
event of an alarm on a "NORMAL" unit of the same group configured with "AUTOM." mode depends on the IDENTIFICATION NUMBER as-
signed to it: the first "BACKUP" unit to be activated is the one with the lowest identification number; the second "BACKUP" unit activated is
the one with the next consecutive identification number, and so on in this way for any other "BACKUP" units.
NOTES
• Activation of an A.C.U. ("NORMAL" or "BACKUP") that was automatically disactivated due to an alarm cause by a fault of malfunction on
the amplifier under its control, must always be carried out manually using the specific menu on the CP 3100 control unit.
• When a "NORMAL" unit is disactivated, and the group of A.C.U.s to which it belongs includes a backup amplifier that is not controlled by
a RB 3300 back-amplifier board (no "BACKUP" unit), the backup is always activated automatically in the place of the primary ampli-
fier.
• When the group of A.C.U.s includes more than one "BACKUP" unit, in the event of an alarm on a "NORMAL" unit belonging to the same
group and configured with "AUTOM." activation/disactivation mode, the first "BACKUP" unit activated is the one with the lowest identifi-
cation number among those configured with "AUTOM." mode. The "BACKUP" units with a lower identification number in absolute terms
but which are configured with "MANUAL" mode do not interfere with the automatic substitution of a "NORMAL" unit.
The alarms that determine automatic disactivation of an A.C.U. and automatic activation of the backup unit, where present, (or the backup
amplifier if the backup unit is not coupled with an RB 3300 board) are the following:
• "PA FAULT" alarm. This alarm can be activated if the A.C.U. that controls the amplifier is equipped with the optional SB 3320 FAULT DE-
TECTOR board. It indicates an alarm caused by any fault or breakdown on the amplifier being controlled which creates a significant de-
crease in the power delivered.
• "OVL" alarm. This alarm can be activated if the amplifier controlled by the A.C.U. is equipped with an auxiliary alarm contact which is clo-
sed when a protection circuit intervenes or when the amplifier is not operating correctly (e.g. operation in overload).
On termination of an alarm on an A.C.U., to return to the initial activation status of the "NORMAL" and "BACKUP" units (normally the "NOR-
MAL" units are activated and the "BACKUP" units are disactivated), you have to put the units back into the original condition manually, using
a specific menu on the control unit, or reconfigure the system.

AUDIO LINES

Operation of the RB 3300 back-amplifier board is based on the use of three audio lines, whose functions are described below (see Fig. 12 on
page 76).
• "Audio bus" line – This line is interconnected with all the A.C.U.s of a certain group, and is used for transmitting the low level audio signal
of a "NORMAL" unit of the group (generally coming from an output of the OB 3230 AUDIO OUTPUT board) to a backup amplifier of the
group. The system therefore includes as many "audio bus" lines as there are groups of A.C.U.s. When one of the primary amplifiers of a
group of A.C.U.s is switched off, the low level audio signal that was driving it, usually coming from the audio matrix of the system, is di-
rected to the "audio bus" line in order to drive the backup amplifier (or the backup of the backup). The backup amplifier can be driven di-
rectly by the line or by an RB 3300 board ("BACKUP" A.C.U.).
is controlled manually by means of a specific menu on the CP 3100 control unit.
is controlled automatically by the system.
Activation of a "BACKUP" unit, in the event of an alarm on a "NORMAL" unit belonging to the
same group, is controlled manually by means of a specific menu on the CP 3100. Disactivation
of the "BACKUP" unit in the event of an alarm on the amplifier under its control is controlled ma-
nually by means of a specific menu on the CP 3100 control unit.
same group, is controlled automatically by the system if the "NORMAL" unit it replaces is con-
figured with the "AUTOM." activation/disactivation mode; otherwise, if the "NORMAL" unit
it replaces is configured with "MANUAL" activation/disactivation mode, activation of the
"BACKUP" unit must be controlled manually.
Disactivation of the "BACKUP" unit, in the event of an alarm on the amplifier under its control,
is controlled automatically by the system.
