(3) Do not cover or put anything on top of the C3
charger. Do not operate the C3 charger in a
closed-in area or do not restrict the ventilation
in any way. Proper ventilation is needed for the
C3 charger not to overheat.
(4) Never allow battery acid to drip onto the C3
charger when reading the electrolyte specific
gravity or filling the battery.
2.5 DC Connection Precautions
Warning
!
(1) Connect and disconnect the DC clips only
after setting the charger "MODE" button
to standby (blue LED ring light is lit) and
removing the AC plug from the electrical
outlet. Never allow the DC clips to touch each
other.
(2) Attach the DC clips to the battery and chassis,
as indicated in Section 2.6(5), 2.6(6) and
2.7(2) through 2.7(5)
2.6 Follow these steps when battery is
installed in vehicle
Warning
!
A spark near the battery may cause a battery
explosion. To reduce the risk of a spark near the
battery:
(1) Always position the AC and DC cables safely
and as far away as possible from moving parts
such as hood, doors or hot engine parts.
(2) Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys and
other moving parts that can cause injury.
(3) Check the polarity of the battery terminals
first. Usually the POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery
Automotive Aftermarket
terminal has a larger diameter then the
NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) terminal.
(4) Determine which terminal of the battery is
connected (grounded) to the chassis. If the
negative post is connected to the chassis (as
in most vehicles), see step (5). If the positive
post is connected to the chassis, see step (6).
(5) For a negative-grounded vehicle, connect
the POSITIVE (RED) DC clip from the C3
battery charger to the POSITIVE (POS, P, +)
ungrounded terminal of the battery. Connect
the NEGATIVE (BLACK) DC clip to a heavy
gauge unvarnished metal part of the frame
or engine block away from the battery. Do
not connect the DC clip to any fuel lines,
carburetion device or sheet-metal body parts.
(6) For a positive-grounded vehicle, connect
the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip from the C3
battery charger to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -)
ungrounded terminal of the battery. Connect
the POSITIVE (RED) DC clip to a heavy gauge
unvarnished metal part of the frame or engine
block away from the battery. Do not connect
the DC clip to any fuel lines, carburetion
device or sheet-metal body parts.
(7) Connect charger AC supply cord to electric
outlet.
(8) When disconnecting the C3 charger, turn the
"MODE" button to standby (blue LED ring is
illuminated), disconnect the AC cord, remove
first the DC clip from the vehicle chassis and
then remove the DC clip from the battery
terminal.
