Toe Adjustment

Once the steering wheel is in the desired level position, make sure
it is securely fixed with the steering wheel holder. With the
adjustment nuts on the toe bar or some excentric screws loo-
sened, and respecting the remarks regarding toe play symmetry
given in the beginning of 4.4, it really comes down to move the
adjustment elements until the values are exactly in the middle of
the green range, perfectly on the specification.
Especially when loosening rusted toe bar nuts, and using a lot of
force and levering, you have to make sure that the position of the
steering wheel does not change.
As mentioned, if you want to do toe adjustment also at the rear
axle, you have to do that before the front axle. In case of changes
in camber and/or caster also to be done, you do there first, and
correcct toe only at the end. If the car is equipped with a VAG
Multilink axle with adjustable load-depending toe characteristics
(toe curve), toe is adjusted in two points with different load
situations. To do this, you will need the unlocking smartcard 1 987
009 AS2N for the VAG Multilink process.

Camber Adjustment

i Initial remark: Especially when adjustin camber, it is of
essential importance, that the plates on the lift are perfectly
levelled. height- and level difference right-left can easily give
you camber errors exceeding 30'. Would you adjust on the
basis of such measurement errors, the car can be pulling to
one side.
If camber is adjustable, this normally means moving excentric
screws or other adjustment devices, until the live values have
reached the specs. It can also be necessary that you have to
create the possibility to adjust, by replacing normal screws by
excentric screws (‚Repair kit', e.g. Mercedes). If so, this will be
shown in the adjustment information.
