NOTICE:
To prevent gear damage, always allow the cable to come to
a complete stop before changing the direction of rotation.
WARNING:
Hybrid tools are always in operating condition. Therefore,
make sure the direction of rotation selector is in the
OFF position when not in use or carrying at your side,
when installing or removing the battery pack, and when
connecting or disconnecting the power cord. Failure to
follow these instructions could result in serious personal
injury.
SPEED CONTROL DIAL
See Figure 4, page 13.
Use the speed control dial to set the best speed for the job.
When the dial is set to the maximum setting, approximately
360 RPM is achieved. Use less speed when feeding the cable
or trying to retrieve objects and more speed for agitating or
breaking up a clog.
ADVANCING/RETRACTING THE CABLE
See Figures 4 - 5, page 13.
Place the direction of rotation selector in the OFF position.
Rotate the tension knob counterclockwise until the cable
moves freely.
Using both hands, pull the cable out of the drum and
advance into the drain until it reaches the desired length.
Rotate the tension knob fully clockwise to secure the
cable in place.
To retract the cable, rotate the tension knob counter-
clockwise until the cable moves freely, then use both
hands to push the cable back into the drum.
REMOVING/INSTALLING AUGER TIP
See Figure 6, page 13.
The drain auger is shipped with a standard bulb tip.
This tip is ideal for extracting hair, paper, and other
common obstructions. More auger tips are available at
www.ryobitools.com and can be used to clear a variety of
obstructions. Refer to the Auger Tip Selection Guide for
information about which tip to choose.
To install an auger tip:
Remove the battery pack or power cord from the tool.
Hold the cable and pull the collar back.
Slide the auger tip into the cable's t-slot.
Push the collar forward so that the tip is secured properly.
Check to see that the tip is secure.
To remove an auger tip:
Remove the battery pack or power cord from the tool.
Hold the cable and pull the collar back.
OPERATION
Remove the auger tip by sliding it out of the t-slot in the
collar.
AUGER TIP SELECTION GUIDE
USING THE DRAIN AUGER
See Figures 7 - 9, pages 13 - 14.
The drain auger can be used to clear obstructions from a
variety of drain pipes. To clear a sink drain, it is necessary to
first remove the P-trap so the drain auger cable can access
the drain pipe at the wall.
CAUTION:
Always wear heavy leather gloves while handling the
rotating cable. Use of any other item, such as cloth gloves
or a rag, could allow the item to become entangled in the
coils of the cable, causing hand injuries.
To clear obstructions:
Install the appropriate auger tip.
Connect the product to an AC or DC power supply.
Place the drain auger within 2 feet of the drain pipe.
Pull out the angle adjustment knob and position the drum
body so the cable faces the drain pipe you will be clearing.
Keep one hand on the battery compartment cover while
pulling the knob out with the other to prevent the drum
body from dropping rapidly to its lowest position.
Manually feed the cable into the drain pipe following the
instructions given previously in this manual.
Once several feet of cable are inside the pipe, place the
direction of rotation selector in the counter clockwise
(
) position and press the foot pedal to begin cable
rotation.
Continue manually advancing the cable until you contact
the obstruction.
Work the cable back and forth into the pipe as necessary
until the obstruction is dislodged. Pull additional cable
from the drum as needed until the obstruction is
completely cleared.
