To initialize (format) a "Memory Stick"
Before using a "Memory Stick" for the first time, make
sure to initialize it with a digital camera. If you initialize
the media with any other device, such as a personal
computer, the unit may not be able to read the image data
stored on the media. Initializing a "Memory Stick" will
erase any data stored on it. Be careful not to erase
important data by accident.
Notes on "Memory Stick"
• Follow the precautions given in "Precautions for all
media" on page 15.
• Affix the supplied label so that it does not stick out
beyond the label area on the "Memory Stick."
• Do not affix anything other than the supplied label to
the label area.
Notes on "Memory Stick Duo"
• Use a sharp object such as a ballpoint pen to move the
"Memory Stick Duo" write-protect switch.
• Some "Memory Stick Duo" are not equipped with a
write-protect switch. When using a "Memory Stick
Duo" without a write-protect switch, be careful not to
edit or erase data by mistake.
• Keep "Memory Stick Duo" out of the reach of small
children, as it may pose a choking hazard.
Notes on "Memory Stick PRO" and
"Memory Stick PRO Duo"
The unit does not support the "Memory Stick PRO" and
"Memory Stick PRO Duo" access control security
function.

CompactFlash Card

A CompactFlash card can only slide into the slot on the
unit in one direction. If the card does not slide into the
slot smoothly, do not force it. Instead, make sure that the
card is oriented correctly, with the v mark pointing
towards the slot, as shown below.
Direction of insertion

SmartMedia Card

The parts of a SmartMedia card are shown below.
For details, visit the SSFDC forum Web site (http://
www.ssfdc.or.jp) or refer to the manual that came with
the card.
To write-protect a SmartMedia card
To protect important data from accidental erasure,
SmartMedia cards can be write-protected. When a
write-protect sticker is applied to the location shown in
the figure (the write-protect area), data can be read from
but not written to the SmartMedia card.
Notes
• When a sticker is applied to the write-protect area, the
SmartMedia card cannot be used to store images taken
with a digital camera.
• To make it possible to write data to the card again,
simply peel off the write-protect sticker.
• Do not attempt to reuse a sticker once you have peeled
it off, as this could damage the unit.
