Definition of machine components and controls

Fig. A shows the following components:
1. Control pedal unit
a) Column overturning control pedal. The pedal has two stable positions: pressed alternativeley for column
overturning or repositioning.
b) Jaw closing/opening control pedal featuring three fixed positions and one unsteady position. Press until it
stops and then release to control complete opening and closing alternatively. Press slightly and then release –
during the opening phase – to stop at an intermediate position. When stopped, press slightly to control step-by-
step closing.
c) Beader closing control pedal. This pedal has two positions: pushed down (unstable) for closing, released
(stable) for stopping (in this position blade closing is made by means of a spring).
d) Spindle rotation control pedal w/4 positions: centre position – stable - for stopping rotation, partially pressed
position – unstable – for clockwise rotation at low speed and completely pressed – unstable – for clockwise
rotation at high speed, lifted position – unstable – for counter-clockwise rotation. If tire changer has only one
speed, pedal has three positions, no high-speed one.
2. Self-centering chucking table made of an a rotating platform (electrically operated), for wheel support, and four
sliding jaws (operated by pneumatic cylinders to clamp the rim, both internally and externally.
3. Overturning vertical column. It assures head quick change from working to idle position and viceversa, thus
allowing tyre removal while maintaining head setting. Some models also assure tyre removal in two working
positions, depending on rym size: lifted position to minimize flexures, for smaller size rims, lowered position for
larger size rims.
4. Horizontal arm (squared section, sliding on the vertical hanger).
5. Head. Special tool for tyre fitting and removal, it is supported by a sliding hexagonal arm.
6. Head securing/releasing knob equipped with a pneumatically-controlled button to secure/release horizontal
arm and head support.
7 Handle. When lever is released, handle allows head vertical positioning by operating on the underlying spring.
8. Blade. It is connected to the rotating arm (operated by a pneumatic cylinder) and must be used to lift tyre bead
from the rim (beader).
9. Support rim buffer for tyre beading.
10.Tyre deflating button, included in tubeless tyre inflating device.
11.Lubricator-filter unit (FL): for input compressed air treatment.
12.Tubeless tyre inflating device. It consists of: air reservoir, beading air lances, (they are placed inside the jaws.
Air jet is needed to expand tyre beads), manometer (for tyre pressure monitoring), deflating button (to eliminate
exceeding air inside the tyre), inflating head (to be fitted on tyre valve for tyre inflating).
13 Pedal for tubeless tyre inflating device. It has three positions: lowered (unstable) to cause air contained in the
reservoir to be jetted out through air lances, middle stroke (unstable, to let air out from inflating head), released
(stable) to close all air outlets.
