WARNING: Internal assemblies can get extremely
hot! Follow all precautions. The internal parts clean best
while still warm, however, always turn off the machine
and wait 5 minutes before cleaning. Use the heat
protective glove.
Usually little maintenance attention is necessary for your
binder: cleaning is required if you see adhesive buildup on an
operating part or when a strip has become jammed inside.
Cleaning the two red Heat Platens
In the Main Menu under Instructions, then Cleaning, you will
be able to view the procedure for cleaning the heating platen
and backup bars.
1.
Turn the power switch to Off and wait 5 minutes before
cleaning.
2.
Remove any books from the Cooling Rack.
3.
Open the machine by pushing the eraser end of a pencil
(or similar object) through the hole in the lower right
corner of the machine (figure 28) until the machine cover
pops open slightly.
4.
Raise the cover until the latch engages and the cover is
held in the upright position.
CAUTION: Other internal parts besides the platens
can be very hot, so please be careful.
5.
While wearing the heat protective glove, clean the
top side of the heating platens with a clean dry cotton
cloth dampened with the cleaning solution provided
in your Accessory Pack. Wipe the surfaces lengthwise
until clean. (figure 29) After the parts have cooled you
can also peel off adhesive buildup with a wooden item
like an ice cream stick. Be very careful not to use
metal items which would scratch the coated red
heater surfaces.
6. Move the right rear belt to raise the front platen until
it is level with the stationary rear platen. Then rotate
the large black gear on the left until the underside of
the rotating platen is exposed. In the same manner as
noted in 5 above, clean all exposed red surfaces plus the
silver deflector plate attached at the bottom of the front
platen.
