Valve selector control
The valve selector control has three
settings:
Dispensing steam via the steam nozzle
Pump is switched off / neutral position
Pump is switched on: dispensing
espresso or hot water via the boiler
outlet
As soon as the valve selector control is
turned from its neutral position, either the
steam nozzle or boiler outlet will open, and
steam or hot water will be emitted.
Before using for the first time
- Before the appliance is used for the first
time, all detachable parts must be
thoroughly cleaned as described in the
section General Care and Cleaning.
Refit the drip tray and drainer to the
appliance afterwards.
Important: before the appliance is used
for the first time, it is essential to
'bleed" the system, i.e. to remove the air
contained in the internal circuits. This is
to prevent the boiler from heating up
while still empty:
- Fill the container with water.
- Insert the filter holder with the filter
sieve, but without putting any ground
coffee in.
- Place a suitable container underneath
the outlet openings.
- Insert the plug into a wall outlet.
- Use the On/Off switch to turn the
appliance on, and immediately
activate the valve selector control
(position
with water and the heating process
starts.
- Leave the pump running until a
continuous stream of water is emitted
from the filter holder. Then switch off
the pump by turning the valve
selector control to its neutral position.
- Before making espresso for the first
time, let the appliance go through two
or three filtration cycles using the
indicated maximum amount of water,
but without using any ground coffee.
This should also be done if the
appliance has not been used for an
extended period of time.
Operation
General
Espresso is a strong coffee with its typical
froth, the 'crema', made from dark-roasted
coffee beans. For making espresso,
especially finely ground coffee is necessary.
Hot water is forced through the coffee
under high pressure, and the espresso is
delivered straight into the typical small
espresso cups with a content of 30-50 ml.
For the steam function, a significantly
higher operating temperature is necessary
than for making espresso. Once the selector
control is operated to dispense steam, this
temperature will be achieved automatically
once the selector control is set to the steam
function.
- Filling with water:
Fill only with fresh water on a daily
basis; make sure that the water
container is cleaned at regular
intervals. Do not switch the appliance
on unless the water container is filled.
- Open the water container lid.
- Lift out the water container by its
handle.
