Safety Precautions
This orbital shaker is a benchtop shaker designed for laboratories in the bioscience,
physical science, and chemistry fields. Intended to mix solutions in various labware vessels.
It may be involved with biohazardous and/or hazardous materials. This instruction manual
can not address all safety hazards. It is the responsibility of the user to consult and observe
all health and safety precautions and to assess the instrument's suitability to the task.
Caution!
Before starting the orbital shaker for the first time, please read this instruction manual
carefully. This manual contains important information, safeguards, and operating
instructions. Improper use of the instrument voids the warranty.
1.
Never use this instrument in any manner inconsistent with these instructions.
2.
Observe general laboratory safety precautions and regulations.
3.
Do not modify construction and/or assembly of shaker.
4.
Do not lift shaker by platform.
5.
The platform must always be securely fastened.
6.
All shaking vessels or containers must be secured to platform.
7.
Do not use a damaged power adapter, power cord, platform, or bungee cords.
8.
Use a properly grounded electrical outlet of correct voltage and current handling capacity.
9.
Use on a level surface.
10. Stand clear of equipment when it is operating. Ensure that parts of the body, hair, or
clothing can not be trapped by the motion of the unit.
11. Do not put hands in the platform area unless the platform is completely stopped.
12. Do not move unit while the shaker is shaking.
13. Do not immerse unit in water. Injury due to shock or fire may result.
14. The platform must be loaded symmetrically. Operating this unit with an unbalanced
platform will cause severe vibration and damage, which is not covered by warranty.
15. Do not fill vessels or containers while attached to platform. Spilled liquid may harm unit.
16. Seal vessels or close containers before starting to shake. Open vessels or containers can
spill contents during shaking and damage the unit.
17. Follow all precautions from the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for any reagent you use
with this instrument.
18. Do not over extend bungee cord fasteners.
19. Use appropriate hand, eye, and face protection.
20. Do not use solvent or flammable liquids near this or other electrical equipment.
21. Do not shake flammable, explosive, or corrosive materials.
22. Do not operate in a hazardous or flammable environment.
2
23. Do not use any solvent on the unit that may attack plastic or cause damage.
24. Do not shake materials where the transfer of mechanical energy to glass could cause glass
breakage.
25. If shaking action will result in the evolution of gases or fumes, carry out the operation in a
well-ventilated laboratory hood.
26. Ensure the unit is protected from corrosion and mechanical damage. The unit must be
cleaned with a pH-neutral cleaning liquid.
27. Always work in a manner, which endangers neither the user nor any other person.
28. Should the instrument fail to work to specification, immediately stop shaking. Clean and
troubleshoot the instrument according to the instructions under "Trouble Shooting" before
any further use of the instrument. Contact an authorized dealer or the manufacturer if
trouble persists.
29. Disconnect from power supply before servicing or cleaning.
30. Do not stop platform while unit is turned ON. Doing so may cause the unit to fail and will
void the warranty.
31. Only use original manufacturer's accessories (power adapter, platform, and bungee cords)
and spare parts.
32. Repairs are to be performed by trained and authorized service personnel only. Contact
Heathrow Scientific
LLC Repair Dept Technical Support.

33. Opening the instrument housing or improper use of the instrument voids the warranty. If
there is a failure during the warranty period, contact Heathrow Scientific
service.
34. Do not use units that have not been correctly installed or repaired.
35. Do not attempt to disassemble or modify.
36. Store at room temperature in a dry area. Do not expose to sunlight, moisture, or extreme
