NOTES
To maintain the quality of the TECUMSEH unit and ensure that
it functions properly, we recommend that you:
- Ensure that the tubing to be connected is clean and dry.
- Purge the system with nitrogen while brazing and ensure the
flame is held well away from electrical equipment.
- Insulate the suction tubing up to the compressor inlet to
limit suction overheating and to prevent condensation. For
low temperature applications, choose an insulator that is at
least 19 mm thick. Connect the tubing using the synthetic
rubber adhesive strip and attach it to the walls using clips.
- Only use the refrigerant for which the compressor has been
designed.
- For units fitted with a low-pressure compressor, a thermo-
static, rather than capillary, expansion device ispreferred.
- Only use components that are compatible with the
designated refrigerant.
- Do not add any additives or dyes to the refrigerant.
- Ensure tubing is installed in a manner which prevents oil
trapping and aids in the absorption of vibrations and
expansion.
- Do not add oil, except in cases where piping is longer than
10 m (33 ft); in this instance, use oil recommended by
TECUMSEH. If your installation has vertical pipe risers, you
will have to create U traps or reduce the diameter of the
pipework to ensure adequate oil circulation.
- Ensure that any pressure relief connections are directed
away from users to prevent them being exposed to any
danger for the user and in accordance with EN378.
- Cut and deburr the tubes carefully to prevent entry of dust
and metallic burrs inside the system. Never use a saw to cut
tubing (use a tube cutter) and use correctly sized tube
bender based on the tube diameter to prevent the pipe
being excessively compressed. TECUMSEH recommends
using brazed connections instead of screw connections to
limit the risks of leaks over time.
- Protect electrical insulation of the wall clips. We recommend
using a cable conduit based on French standard NF C15-100
or on the legal standards applicable in the relevant country
(IEC 60204/IEC 60335), separated from the refrigerantline.
- Protect the housing during tube soldering.
See annex 1 for the refrigeration connection
Electrical connections
■ 3.8.
Always connect cables while the unit is switched off.
Make sure that the power and control circuits are
switched off when performing any action on the unit.
Any cabling on-site must conform to standard NFC15-100 in
France or to the applicable legal standards for the relevant
country (IEC 60204/IEC 60335).
According to IEC 60335, it is necessary to consider the
pollution degree is 3 in order to determine the minimum
insulation leakage lines and other safety distances.

NOTES
To maintain the quality of the TECUMSEH unit and ensure that
it functions properly, we recommend that you:
- Check the compatibility of the supply voltage for the
installation with the supply voltage for the unit (see iden-
tification label).
- Check the compatibility of the electrical drawing of the unit
with that of the installation.
- Dimension the connection cables (power, control) according
to the characteristics of the installed unit.
See electrical data currents table, see annex 5
- Protect the electrical power supply line, which must include
a grounding cable.
- Perform the electrical connections in accordance with the
regulations in force in the country of installation and
accepted practices.
- Ensure that the unit is grounded when replacing components.
Like the protection device, use the relay supplied with the
compressor only, even if another model number appears to
work at any given time.
All TECUMSEH compressors are protected by an external or
internal protection device, based on temperature/current. As
with any protection device, it is normal for the device to cut
the power supply to the compressor if it functions outside of
the normal operating ranges defined by TECUMSEH.
Connection of components
■ 3.9.
Please refer to the electrical drawing for the connection of
components.
- Connect all regulation and safety devices mounted on the
machine.
- Hold any cables in place with the cable ties available on
the unit.
- Close the electrical compartment after cabling.

- COMMISSIONING
Compressors are designed to operate at a maximum ambient
temperature of 46°C (115°F). Do not exceed this temperature.
To optimize the quantity of refrigerant in the system, observe
best practices for refrigerant charging.
To use the compressor in different conditions, be sure to never
exceed its maximum allowable pressure PS. If there is a single-
walled tube between the water and the refrigerant (e.g., water
evaporator) and a leak occurs through this wall, refrigerant
would leak out and water would get into the system, creating a
vapor effect. Without a safety device, the compressor will act
as a vapor generator and motor overheating will generate a
significant increase in pressure.
The disintegration of the insulation (glass bead) around an
electrical power supply terminal of the compressor due to a
physical shock, or extreme heating, could create a hole through
which the refrigerant and the oil can escape. Upon contact with
a spark, this mixture could ignite. Regardless of the work being
carried out on the refrigeration system, simply positioning the
electrical box cover correctly will limit this type of risk.
