Assembly
The assembly of the pump / pump set including installation, alignment and connection, must be executed
by the Barmag Pump Service or the user's own properly trained personnel.
If the user has the assembly carried out by his own personnel, Barmag offers the proper training fur such
assembly staff. In excess of this, you may order service manuals from Barmag.
At the time of delivery, the inlet and outlet holes of the pump medium and the (optional) sealing cham
ber connections are sealed with protective plugs / caps in order to prevent contaminations from enter
ing the pump.
Do not remove protective plugs / caps but immediately before installing the pump in the installation /
machine or before heating it in the oven. Keep the protective plugs / caps for reuse during any future
disassembly.
Transport and assemble the pump with care.
In case of drive units with pump and connection plate, the retainer of the set must be screwed on so
that the set cannot move during the operation.
Before installing the pump in the installation / machine, ensure that all parts that contact the product
ahead of the pump are absolutely clean. Contamination, metal particles etc. lead to pump damage.
For pumps with connection plate, surface seals must be used at the inlet and outlet holes of the
pumped medium and at the holes for sealing liquid. Do not seal using Teflon tape or hemp!
The clamping surface for the pump must be even. The flatness must be maintained at operating tem
perature. The maximum permissible unevenness of the mounting surface is 4 µm for pumps up to
3
5 cm
/rev and 6 µm for pumps > 5 cm
The clamping surface must be finished by lapping
(RZ ≤ 1 μm). If necessary, contact the Barmag Pump Service in this respect.
The contact surfaces of pump and clamping surface must be absolutely clean and undamaged (no
burrs or nicks).
Even the smallest contaminations (pumped medium, insulating material etc.) and damage will cause
leakage between pump and clamping surface.
For preheating of the pump, please refer to section 4.2.
Apply a thin coat of "Klüber Unimoly HTC Metallic" high-temperature paste containing graphite and
metal to the threads and head contact surfaces of the pump fastening screws.
When inserting the screws, ensure that no grease gets between pump and clamping surface.
To fasten the pump on the mounting surface, only use screws and bolts of the strength grade 12.9.
Gradually tighten the fastening screws of the pump crosswise in several steps until the required torque
is achieved.
Following each step, check the pump for smooth rotation.
The pump shaft must be precisely aligned with the shaft of the pump drive.
In any case, the pump must be driven by a double-joint cardan shaft or a double cardan shaft coupling
(e.g. three-part curved-teeth coupling).
The weight of the shaft of the pump drive must not be supported by the pump shaft.
Never start-up the pump in dry condition. Therefore, use a temperature-resistant silicone oil to manu
ally rotate the pump several times before installing it in the installation / machine. Upon delivery,
Barmag pumps have been lubricated already. During operation, the pump is lubricated by the pumping
medium.
