Troubleshooting
Use the Troubleshooting chart (Table 18) to assist in defining a problem,
determining a possible cause, and defining action steps to remedy the situation.
Table 18 Troubleshooting Ghart
Problem
Will not start
Poor ultimate pressure
Hammering noise
Pump runs intermittently
Motor speed interment slowing
Pump does not pump for first 30
seconds.
Hour meter does not light.
Service, Maintenance, Tip Seal, or Part
Replacement
* The IDP-10 is equipped with an auto-reset thermal motor protector. This
protector will automatically shut down the pump when it detects an overload
condition, and will automatically restart the pump when the motor has cooled to
within an acceptable temperature range.

Possible Causes
Motor thermal protector open
Excessive voltage drop
Defective motor
System leak
Water in pump
Gas ballast plugged
Solvent in pump
Worn tip seal
Poor conductance to pump
Pump overheated
Debris in pump
Motor thermal protector is cycling open
and closed. *
Inverter limit to protect from high power
draw due to high gas load at inlet.
Optional valve is closed for the first 30
seconds of operation.
Internal failure, no AC power.
Wear or damage.
Corrective Actions
Allow motor to cool. Identify cause of
overload.
Check size and length of cable.
Inspect. Contact Agilent.
Locate and repair leak.
Flush pump with air or dry nitrogen.
Replace breather vent. Contact Agilent.
Flush pump with air or dry nitrogen.
Install trap or filter.
Replace tipseals.
Replumb with shorter and/or larger
diameter tubing.
Check ventilation to pump.
Check ambient temperature.
Check intake screen. Flush pump.
Flush pump.
Disassemble pump and inspect.
Allow the motor to cool.
Identify the cause of the overload.
Check for proper operation of fan.
Ensure there is adequate space for air to
circulate at inlets.
Identify cause of overload.
None, this is normal.
Check branch circuit breaker plug AC
power cord into unit and/or wall outlet.
Contact Agilent.
See Table 9 and Table 10.
