Problem
Engine fails to start
Engine runs erratically
Engine overheats
Engine will not stop when throttle
control is positioned at STOP, or
engine speed does not increase
when throttle control is adjusted
Compactor is difficult to control
when pounding (machine jumps or
lurches forward)

Cause
Spark plug wire disconnected
Out of fuel or stale fuel
Throttle control lever not in correct
starting position
Choke not in ON position
Blocked fuel line
Fouled spark plug
Engine flooding
Engine oil level low (Oil monitor inter-
rupts the ignition circuit)
Spark plug wire loose
Unit running on CHOKE
Blocked fuel line or stale fuel
Vent plugged
Water or dirt in fuel system
Dirty air cleaner
Dirty air cleaner
Air flow restricted
Debris interfering with throttle linkage Clean dirt and debris
Too high engine speed on hard
ground

Remedy
Attach spark plug wire securely to spark
plug
Fill with clean fresh gasoline
Move throttle control lever to starting
position
Throttle must be positioned at choke for a
cold start
Clean the fuel line
Clean, adjust gap or replace
Wait a few minutes to restart, but do not
prime
Fill crank case with proper oil
Connect and tighten spark plug wire
Move choke lever to OFF
Clean fuel line. Fill tank with clean, fresh
gasoline
Clear vent
Drain fuel tank. Refill with fresh fuel
Clean or replace air cleaner
Clean or replace air cleaner
Remove blower housing and clean
Set the throttle lever at lower speed
