Tips
To enjoy an aromatic espresso or coffee, please note the following tips:
•
Always preheat the cups on the hotplate (i).
•
Rinse out the cups with hot water immediately before using them.
•
Always fi ll the water tank (h) with fresh water. Do not use any water that has been in the
water tank for longer than 12 hours.
•
After the device has heated up, fi rst allow hot water to run through the sieve insert (b / c)
and the portafi lter (d) before you fi ll them with espresso / coffee powder.
•
Experiment with the amount of espresso / coffee powder to suit your own personal taste.
As a guideline, you can reckon on 7 g of espresso / coffee powder for a normal cup of
espresso or coffee.
•
If possible, always use freshly ground espresso / coffee powder to achieve an optimum
fl avour.
•
The grinding fi neness of the espresso / coffee powder also has an infl uence on the aroma
and the crema. Here too you can experiment with different grinding fi nenesses.
•
Do not press down the espresso / coffee powder in the sieve insert too fi rmly. If the
espresso / coffee powder is pressed too much, this may increase the processing time, thus
producing increased levels of bitter compounds.
•
A higher temperature is required to make milk froth than to brew an espresso. Our recom-
mendation: fi rst prepare the espresso and place it down on the hotplate, and then froth up
the milk.
•
If you do want to make an espresso after frothing the milk, the machine needs to cool
down fi rst. You can speed up this process by cleaning the steam nozzle (6) as the water
which emerges will also cool down the heating and the pipes (see the "Cleaning and Care"
chapter – "Cleaning the Steam Nozzle").
•
Empty and clean the sieve insert after each use.
•
Regularly clean and descale the device (see the "Cleaning and Care" chapter – "Descaling").
A dirty and / or furred-up device compromises the fl avour.
