Who can find my hat?
Game 3
A hat memory game – easy version
Players: 2 – 4
Material: Board, 12 pixies, 12 hats
Duration: approx. 8-12 mins.
The aim of the game is to work out the right material under the hat by feeling it
and match it with the right pixie.
Preparation
Place the pixies on the 12 'paths' around the board, facing the glade. Place the
12 hats on the light 'grassy surface' in the middle of the board so that the tactile
surfaces are hidden. Mix them up and then place them on the marked areas.
How to play
The first player starts. They choose a hat from the middle and feel the surface,
without looking at it or showing it to the other players.
They can look at the surfaces of the pixies, but are not allowed to compare them by
touching.
If they are sure they know which pixie goes with the hat they have felt, they point
to it.
They now check by looking at the surface underneath the hat, without showing
it to the other players.
Was the player right?
They show the other players, put the hat on the pixie and take the pixie and hat as
a winner's point. It's then the next player's turn.
Was the player wrong?
They put the hat back into the middle, without showing
it to the other players. It's now the next player's turn.
The game is played clockwise until all the pixies have been reunited with their hats.
Tip: The game can also have a linguistic element, in that players can not only point
to the pixie but also describe it, e.g. "The hat belongs to the pixie with the smooth,
turquoise material."
At the end
When the game finishes, count up who has won the most pixies. The player with the
most pixies has won, the player with the second most pixies is second etc.
The game can be made easier by allowing the player to compare the surfaces of
up to 3 pixies.
