Pushback (B)
When the chain on the top of the bar –
underbucking – is suddenly pinched,
caught or encounters a foreign object in
the wood, the chain saw may suddenly
be driven straight back toward the
operator – to avoid this:
Do not allow the top of the guide bar
to become jammed
Do not twist the guide bar in the cut

Working Techniques

Sawing
Work calmly and carefully – in daylight
conditions and only when visibility is
good. Do not endanger others – stay
B
alert at all times.
Use the shortest possible guide bar: The
chain, guide bar and chain sprocket
must match each other and your saw.
Make certain that all parts of your body
are well clear of the extended range of
travel of the saw chain.
If conditions allow, work from a lift
bucket.
Never use the machine while standing
on a ladder, in an unsteady location or
above shoulder height.
Cordon off the work area in order to
reduce the risk of injuries and damage to
bystanders or property from falling
branches.
When using a lifeline, there is a risk of
the rope being cut – risk of falling! A
double lifeline (redundancy) is
absolutely necessary.
Take special care when cutting through
a limb. Hold the machine firmly to control
and counteract the feed force. At the end
of the cut, the chain saw is no longer
supported by the cutting attachment in
the cut. The machine's weight must be
borne by the user – increased risk of
accident!
