Description
This document includes installation information for the GE Security
KMD300 carbon monoxide detector.
The KMD300 is designed for use with the GE Security KM300 and
KM260 CO detection systems.
The lifespan of the KMD300 detector is five years.
Principle of operation
Detection is based on an electrochemical sensor that improves
the accuracy of the measurement and reduces the consumption
with thermal integrated compensation and control based on a 16-
bit microcontroller.
Installation
Wiring
Caution:
To ensure correct operation of your system, you must
follow the recommended cabling practices described below.
Connect the detector base as shown in Figure 1:
1.
PIN 1 Positive line
2.
PIN 2 Data line
3.
PIN 3 Negative line
The cable used should:
Have a cross-sectional area of at least 1.5 mm
Have maximum resistance of 13.3 Ω/km per core
Detector placement
Detectors should be installed above the level at which the gas is
generated.
Note: Installing the detectors too high or placing the detectors too
close to windows, air inlets or ventilation systems may prevent the
carbon monoxide from reaching the detector.
Detector installation
Insert the detector head into the base, rotating it clockwise until it
clicks into place.
The detector head can be locked into the base by breaking the
locking tab at the base of the detector head (Figure 2, item 1). To
remove a locked detector, insert a screwdriver into the base slot
and push.
LED indications
When in service the detector LED will flash green. A flashing red
LED indicates a fault. A constant red LED indicates an alarm (by
default this occurs when CO levels of 50 ppm or higher are
detected).
Maintenance
Basic maintenance consists of a yearly inspection. Do not modify
the internal wiring or circuitry.
