both sides
Note: Some models may require adjustment to the factory safety chain loops to provide clearance for the hitch pin. Using an adjustable wrench, bend the loops upward as needed. (See Figure 2)
Vehicles without dual exhaust system move to step 3
1.
Remove exhaust hanger bracket – Using a 15mm socket remove the exhaust hanger bracket on the driver side. Remove the passenger side exhaust hanger bracket hardware but leave the
bracket on the exhaust hanger.
2.
Remove driver side exhaust bezel – Using a 10mm socket remove (3) hex bolts securing the driver side exhaust bezel. Set aside for reinstallation.
3.
Remove factory bolts: Using a 21mm socket, remove the (2) existing factory M14 bolts from the frame on both sides of the vehicle. Set fasteners aside for reinstallation.
4.
Remove factory 7 way – Remove the factory 7 way and spare tire removal access by squeezing the clips and pushing outward.
5.
Remove top bumper cover – Remove the top plastic cover from the rear bumper by carefully prying upwards on an outside edge and working towards the middle of the vehicle, pushing on
the retainers when accessible.
6.
Install hitch – Raise the hitch into position, loosely secure the hitch to the vehicle frame using the factory bolts and the provided flat head socket cap screw. Move the exhaust out of the way
if necessary.
7.
Tighten all M14 fasteners with torque wrench to 115 Ft.Lb. (156 N*M) and 3/4" fastener to 250 Ft.Lb. (339 N*M)
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
8.
Reinstall exhaust – Reinstall the exhaust hanger brackets removed in step 1 and the bezel removed in step 2 if necessary
9.
Reinstall bumper cover – Reinstall the plastic bumper cover and the factory 7way and spare tire access cover removed earlier.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be
removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices
and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
