1. First of all trim down the sides of the
hedge, moving the trimmer along
the direction of growth, i.e. from the
bottom upwards. Trimming from top
to bottom will make thinner twigs to
move outwards, thus creating bald
patches or holes.
2. Then go along the top edge and trim it
straight, round or to a roof shape.
3. Start trimming the plants to shape
even if they are still young. Mind not
to cut into the main sprout until the
hedge has reached its planned height,
though. All other sprouts are cut to
half their length.
Trimming naturally growing hedges:
Whereas naturally growing hedges are
not trimmed to a particular shape, regular
trimming should still prevent them from
growing too high.
Maintenance and
cleaning
Maintenance and cleaning work
must always be carried out with
the engine switched off and the
spark plug connector removed.
Contact one of our authorised
Service Centres about work not
described in this manual. Only
use OEM parts.
Regularly check the blades for
wear and have them sharpened as
necessary. Blunt blades will over-
load the machine.
Wear gloves when handling the
blades.
General maintenance and
cleaning
•
Prior to every use, check the appli-
ance for obvious defects such as
loose, worn or damaged parts. Check
that the screws in the blade bar are
tight.
•
Check covers and safety devices for
damages and correct installation. Re-
place as necessary.
•
Check that the motor and silencer are
free from deposits, leaves or lubricant
at all times. Non-compliance causes a
risk of fire or explosion.
Use a damp cloth or a brush. Do not
spray the appliance with water and do
not immerse it in water.
•
Do not use cleaning agents or sol-
vents. You may otherwise irreparably
damage the appliance. Chemical sub-
stances may damage the plastic parts
of the appliance.
•
Carefully clean the blade bar after
every time of use. Wipe with an oily
cloth or spray it with a metal care
spray.
Cleaning the air filter
Do not operate the appliance
without the air filter. Dust and
dirt will otherwise get into the
engine and cause damage to
the machine. Keep the air filter
clean.
The air filter (20) is located behind the
cover below the choke lever.
1. Turn off the unit.
2. Unscrew the air filter cover (15).
3. Remove the air filter (20) from its
housing.
