Nomenclature of parts

Inspection, points to verify
Check before each use: the fi xed and moving
sideplates, the friction components (cam and
sheave grooves), the locking components
(safety catch, sideplate nuts), the operation
of the cam and safety catch springs. Finish by
carrying out the operational check (fi g. 2).

Instructions for use
Precautions
Warning: The self-braking function works
only if the handle is released and able to move
freely.
Do not allow anything to interfere with the
movement of the handle (carabiner, rope,
lanyard...). The device must be able to function
freely at all times.
Do not allow it to become jammed in a crack,
or otherwise constricted - it will not work in
this case.
Avoid hitting it against the rock, and avoid
getting sand in the mechanism.
The effectiveness of the self-braking function
varies depending on the condition of the rope
(diameter, age, fl exibility, cleanliness, etc.).
Any lubricant on the friction surfaces can
reduce the braking ability.
Ropes of 8 to 9 mm diameter
The STOP is not certifi ed for ropes of less than
9 mm diameter, as the self-braking function no
longer works. In this case, it can be used as a
simple descender, requiring additional braking
(fi g. 3A). Verify that the rope is suitable for the
desired application.

Attach the STOP (moving sideplate towards
you) to the harness or anchor using a locking
carabiner. Install the rope as indicated by the
drawing on the device, then close the STOP,
taking care the safety catch closes completely
around the attachment carabiner.

Verify that the cam and its spring move freely
without rubbing or friction.
To verify correct rope installation and device
function, always carry out an operational check
prior to use while self-belayed.
Diagram 3. Descent
Do not forget to tie a knot in the bottom end
of the rope. For your safety, never let go of
the free end of the rope during the descent.
Braking and descent control are effected by
varying the grip of the hand on the free end
of the rope. Release the handle to activate the
self-braking function. Squeeze the handle to
deactivate the self-braking function and allow
the rope to run.

3A. Additional braking
For additional braking, pass the free end of the
rope through a carabiner as shown.
3B. Disabling the self-braking function
Additional braking must be used if the self-
braking function is disabled.

4A.Rescue evacuation from a fi xed anchor-point
When the STOP is attached to an anchor,
the free end of the rope must be redirected
through a carabiner for additional braking.
4B.Rescue evacuation from the harness
When lowering a person with the STOP
attached to the harness (self-braking required),
brace yourself well and use additional braking.
4C. Exceptional rescue
Must only be used by rescuers trained in
this technique. Maximum load 250 kg; shock
loading forbidden; additional braking required.
