1. Remove taillights – Remove access covers from inside of trunk, using a 10mm socket to remove nuts from the taillight, unplug the connector. Pull
out the rubber bushing where the wires go through the body. Pull the taillight rearward firmly and carefully. Set aside for reinstallation.
2. Remove underbody panel – Remove appearance panel which covers the driver's side frame rail. Remove 10mm hex nuts and plastic push fasteners
(Fasteners are released by first pulling out center post with small flat edge screwdriver). Remove rubber plugs from the frame rail, if present.
3. Lower muffler & remove heat shield - Lower exhaust (2) rubber isolator hangers, one on side and rear of muffler. Note: Spraying a lubricant or
soapy water on the metal hanger rod and the rubber isolator helps removal. Remove heat shield using 10mm socket. Trim as shown. See figure 2.
4. Remove fascia/bumper fasteners – Using a Phillips screwdriver remove the screw from taillight area and remove plastic push fastener, repeat for
other side. Using a T30 torx remove three screws in the wheel well area, both sides. Using a Phillips screwdriver remove 1 screw in the wheel well
each side. Remove plastic push fastener from the bottom of the wheel well at the fascia. Using 15mm socket remove 2 bumper bolts each side
(Bumper stays attached to the fascia).
5. Remove fascia/bumper – Starting at the wheel well, using trim removal tools, very carefully pull the fascia away from the vehicle (attaching tab is
very thin and fragile) unplug electrical connector behind fascia on driver side. Set fascia aside. Using Phillips screwdriver remove the lower fascia
bracket that connects the bumper to the fascia, one each side.
6. Trim lower fascia – Find and mark the center of the fascia on the bottom. Trim lower fascia as shown. See figure 3. Recommend radius in corners.
Trim support ribs on inside of fascia in trim area also.
7. Raise hitch for template - Using reverse pull wire procedure, install items 1 & 2 into existing access hole in frame(leave pull wire attached to item 1).
Feed the pull wire through the forward holes on the hitch. Raise hitch into place, feed item 3 over pull wire, using the conical washer to hold the
bolt in place remove the pull wires and attach the hex nut. Hand tighten both sides. Check to assure hitch is even and centered on vehicle. Using
the hitch as a template mark or center punch the (2) rearward holes on both sides.
8. Drill holes – being careful, lower hitch making sure not to knock forward bolts into frame rail. Re-attach pull wires and remove or push current
fastener out of way. Drill holes and remove any burrs.
9. Install fasteners – Install the rear fasteners into drilled holes. Feed the coiled end of the pull wire through the drilled hole in the frame rail and out
the access hole. Pull the pull wire with fasteners into location through the hole. Leave pull wires attached. Repeat the same process on both frame
rails. Re-install or pull forward fastener into place. Leave pull wires attached.
10. Re-install heat shield – Re-install trimmed heat shield.
11. Install hitch – Raise hitch into position, feed pull wire through corresponding holes on hitch. Using the conical washer to hold the bolt in place
remove the pull wires and attach the hex nut. Tighten to hold hitch in place, repeat on all fasteners. Check to assure hitch is even and centered on
vehicle.
12. Tighten all 7/16-14 GR 5 fasteners with torque wrench to 50 Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M)
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
13. Re-install fascia – Reinstall fascia in reverse order of steps used earlier, be sure to attach any and all electrical connectors removed earlier.
14. Raise exhaust - Raise exhaust back into position and reattach exhaust hangers disconnected in step 2. Note: Using a spraying a lubricant helps
with reinstallation.
15. Re-install underbody panel - Reinstall the underbody panel removed earlier.
16. Re-install taillights – Insert wiring back through access hole into trunk area, attach electrical connector. Re-install rubber bushing. Carefully put
taillight back in place and reattach nuts removed earlier.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged
should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for
connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
