This kit assembly contains:
Description
Vacuum valve
Branch piece
Hose clips (B-38)
Hose clips (B-44)
Reducer pipe
Hose 300 mm
Assembly instructions
Correctly installed, the vacuum valve prevents sip-
honing, which causes water to enter the engine.
Note! On sailboats, the sea water inlet strainer must
face aft, which prevents water from being forced up
into the cooling water pipe when the boat is sailing.
On motorboats, the sea water inlet must face for-
ward. When a motor boat is towed, the sea cock
must be closed.
A vacuum valve should be installed when the
distance between the exhaust pipe flange and
the waterline is less than 200 mm (A).
The valve should be installed as close as possible
to the center of the boat and about 500 mm above
the waterline (B). Please note that when installed in
a sailboat, this dimension must be still maintained
when the boat is fully heeled over. The vacuum
valve unit must not be mounted directly on the
engine. A suitable place could be a bulkhead which
should be reinforced as necessary to reduce
vibration as far as possible.
Install the valve as follows:
1.
Install the branch union with valve (1) in a suitable
location, within the dimensions mentioned above.
The vacuum valve should face upwards.
2.
Remove the hose between the seawater outlet on
the heat exchanger and the exhaust pipe elbow.
Align the outlet of the exhaust pipe elbow obliquely
upwards, to make it easier to install the new hose.
3.
Join reduction pipe (5) with hose (6) and fix with a
hose clamp (4). Install hose (6) to the seawater out-
let and fix with hose clamp (4). Install hose (sold in
uncut lengths, Ø 25 mm) between the reduction pipe
(5) and manifold (2) and fix it with hose clamps (3).

Then install the hose between the manifold (2) and
the heat exchanger, and fix with hose clamps (3).
(The water hose is not included in the kit. VP part
no. 952972 Ø 25 mm is recommended.).
Note! The hoses must be installed with smooth
bends, in such a way that they are not pressed
together or kinked, which would obstruct water flow.
If the hoses are lead through a bulkhead, it is a good
idea to protect them with a grommet etc.
4.
The hose on top of the valve should be installed in
such a way that no bends occur and any drips do not
cause any damage. (The hose is not included in the
kit. VP part no. 941149 is recommended). Max.
length 0.5m
Maintenance instructions
To make the vacuum valve work satisfactorily, it
must be disassembled twice a season, or when
leakage occurs.
Remove the entire valve from the bulkhead where it
is installed.
Undo the cover on the valve, remove the gasket
and diaphragm, and clean off any deposits. If the
diaphragm is deformed, change it.
Assemble the valve upside down. Put the
diaphragm in the cover. Make sure that all of
the diaphragm ends up in the space intended.
The diaphragm must not be pinched by the gasket.
Put the gasket in and screw the lid down.
Note! Tightening torque 2 Nm. If the cover is
tightened too hard, the valve will stop working.
