Enclosures for control devices
Operating Instructions
Read and understand these instructions before installing,
operating, or maintaining the equipment.
DANGER
!
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause death or serious injury.
Disconnect power before working on equipment.
CAUTION
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with
certified components.
Assembly instructions
The 3SB38 enclosures are suitable for stationary use and with weather
protection.
The enclosures can be equipped with the round 3SB3 control and sig-
naling range (∅ 22 mm).

b Inscription plates
c Control element / indicator light with holder
d Grounding screw (only metal enclosures)
e Switch block / lighting elements for base mounting
f Lower part of enclosure
g Identification letters for command points
h Sequence numbers for command points
Mounting the control elements / indicator lights, Fig. II
The control or signaling unit (Fig. II, Pos.1) must be inserted through
the assembly aperture on the upper part of the enclosure. The holder
(Fig. II, Pos.2) is pushed onto the unit from behind in the direction of
the arrow x 1 - 4 x and fastened using a screwdriver.
Choice of fittings with switch blocks and lighting elements,
Figs. III - IV
Support terminals, switch blocks and lighting elements are clipped into
the lower part of the enclosure (Fig. III).
Support terminal
Mounting pos.
All pos. can be used
Mounting the cable gland Figs. V - VI
Cable glands must be used to insert cables into the enclosures. These
cable glands are for mounting at the front of the enclosures, in the
apertures of the metal (Fig. V) or molded-plastic enclosures (Fig. VI).
The screw thread required for this can be found in Table 1 (Fig. X) for
metal enclosures and Table 2 (Fig. X) for molded-plastic enclosures.
The upper and lower parts of the molded-plastic enclosure must be
screwed on in order to enable the pre-cut screw apertures to be
knocked out.
Connecting piece (Fig. VII - VIII)
The connecting piece for metal enclosures must be mounted acc. to
Fig. VII, and for molded-plastic enclosures acc. to Fig. VIII. The con-
necting piece required for the enclosure combination is specified in
Table 3 (metal enclosures) and Table 4 (molded-plastic enclosures)
respectively. When connecting pieces are used, both enclosures must
be firmly attached.
Replacing the incandescent lamp, Fig. IX
Incandescent lamps can be replaced from the front without dismantling
the control device (Fig. IX) (see "Control devices, pushbuttons and indi-
cator lights" operating instructions 3SB3 3ZX1012-0SB30-1AA1) or by
dismantling the upper part of the enclosure.

Encapsulations with protective collars for padlocks
The 3SB3801-2EC3 empty enclosure can only be used in connection
with EMERGENCY STOP mushroom pushbuttons equipped with CES,
BKS, OMR, IKON safety locks!
We recommend using a hoop diameter of 6.0 mm for these padlocks. A
smaller diameter may not be used!
