Continuous Wave II Arthroscopy Pump
3.5
Safety features of the pump
Abnormal operation
The pump has internal circuits to ensure the pressure sensor circuit remains within normal
limits. In the event of a fault, the pump will switch off and the decimal point in the three-digit
pressure display will flash.
If abnormal operation occurs, disinfect the pump, pack it in the original
!
packaging and send it to Arthrex, accompanied by a brief description of the
malfunction.
Overpressure sensor
The overpressure sensor circuit in roll pump AR-6450 measures the pressure of the liquid in
the system. Overpressure can occur when the flow is abruptly interrupted or the joint is
suddenly positioned in a way which reduces the joint capsule (e.g. bending the knee joint in
the "figure 4" position). If overpressure occurs, a red control lamp lights up on the front of the
pump and an intermittent acoustic alarm sounds. Pump operation is interrupted until the
pressure returns to the set range. Pressure in the joint can be reduced by opening an outflow
and by moving the joint to another stress-free position.
Locking the roll pump housing
The pump switches off when the roll pump housing is opened. The locking mechanism
prevents any access to the rotating parts while the device is operating.
Fuse
The fuse protects the pump in the event of a fault. In the case of excess current or a short-
circuit, the fuse heats up and the pump switches off automatically. The fuse cools down
again after approximately 30 seconds. The pump can then be switched on and started up
again.
If the pump won't switch on again even after waiting for a longer period of
!
time, disinfect the pump, pack it in the original packaging and send it to
Arthrex, accompanied by a brief description of the malfunction.
