Operating Instructions
Read and understand these instructions before installing,
operating, or maintaining the equipment.
DANGER
!
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause death or serious injury.
Disconnect power before working on equipment.
CAUTION
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with certified
components.
Important notice
The products described herein are designed to be components of a customized
machinery safety-oriented control system. A complete safety-oriented system
may include safety sensors, evaluators, actuators and signaling components. It
is the responsibility of each company to conduct its own evaluation of the effec-
tiveness of the safety system by trained individuals. Siemens AG, its subsidia-
ries and affiliates (collectively "Siemens") are not in a position to evaluate all of
the characteristics of a given machine or product not designed by Siemens.
Siemens accepts no liability for any recommendation that may be implied or sta-
ted herein. The warranty contained in the contract of sale by Siemens is the sole
warranty of Siemens. Any statements contained herein do not create new war-
ranties or modify existing ones.
Applications
Field of use
• In assembled state with cover fitted, the signalling column complied with
Degree of Protection IP54!
• In order to maintain shock-hazard protection (VDE 0106) on the part of the
terminals, proper connection of the live conductors to these terminals is
essential!
• The signalling column is constructed and tested in accordance with
DIN VDE 0660. To ensure safe operation, the following notes should be
observed:
At close range, the sound pressure of the audible signal
devices is capable of causing damage to human hearing.

General principle of operation
The signalling column converts electrical signals into:
• Visible signals (steady light, LED steady glow
king LED
)
and/or
• Audible signals (buzzer
).
The signalling column is constructed and tested to DIN VDE 0660 Part 200.

Mounting
When mounting, ensure that there is a flat, level surface and adequate space for
the complete signalling column. The accessories are fitted using M4 screws. For
hole spacing, see the relevant figures or the dimensions indicated at the bottom of
the fixing elements
Å/Æ.
Methods of fixing
• Floor and tube mounting (Figs. IIc, IId, IIe, IIIa)
• Single-hole mounting (Figs. IIa, IIIb)
• Bracket-mounting (Figs. IIb, IIIc)
Mounting the signalling column
• Screw the fixing element - e.g. foot for floor mounting

hole figures (Figs. IIIa, IIIb, IIIc) or the dimensions indicated at the bottom of
the fixing elements
• Lead the cable from the bottom through the fixing element and the connec-
tion element
(Fig. IIId).
¿
• Connect the cable (Fig. IIIe).
• Clamp the connection element
screw on the connection element cover
• Fit an incandescent lamp or LED (bayonet mounting) into the signal element
(Fig. IIIg).
• Mount the signalling elements.
Ensure that the supply voltage is the same for all signalling
elements of one signalling column.
• You can mount up to 4 signalling elements on each connection element (for
arrangement together with AS-i element, see Fig. IId). Plug the signalling
elements onto the connection element in such a way that the white marks on
both the base and the signal element are in line with one another, then turn
the elements in the direction of the arrow (printed on the signalling element)
until they snap into place (Fig. IIIh).
• Snap on the end guard
that signal device itself is the final cover as it comprises an integrated end
guard.
Maintenance
General care
Clean the signalling column with a mild detergent which contains no
abrasive. Do NOT use thinner. Keep away from soluble machining oil!
Maintenance
The signalling column should be removed for this purpose of changing individual
signal devices or replacing defective bulbs (bayonet fitting). To do this, twist sig-
nal device in the opposite direction to the arrow and lift the device out.
