2. Extension kit for leak detection on air conditioning units
Article report (for pictures please refer to the last page)
1. Item No 5380 163 High pressure testing instrument with 3-way test valve
2. Item No 5380 604 Coolant hose blue 90 cm
3. Item No 5380 607 Coolant hose red 3 m
4. Item No 5380 691 Quick action service coupling HD
Important! The extension kit for leak detection on air conditioning units is solely designed to be added to the
Förch nitrogen / forming gas leak detection packages 5380 P1 and 5380 P2. Any other use or usage of other
components may have unpredictable consequences for the staff and material.
The air conditioning unit must be completely empty (unpressurized) before filling it with nitrogen or
forming gas.
Please also observe the operating instructions of the Förch leak detection package 5380 P1 and /or 5380 P2.
3. Assembly of the extension kit for leak detection on air conditioning units
Note: Only tighten the knurled nut on climate hoses by hand; otherwise the sealing inside the hoses
might get damaged.
1. Fit the coolant hose blue with a length of 90 cm included in the delivery on the right side of the test valve.
2. At the bottom of the test valve there is a T-fitting to connect the high pressure hose 3 m red incl. HD quick
action coupling or the low pressure hose 3 m blue of your Förch leak detection package for air conditioning
units incl. an ND quick action coupling. It is not important which hose is connected to which side of the
T-fitting.
Before commissioning, please make sure that all screw connections and hoses are firmly tightened and
leak-proof. When using the nitrogen leak detection package, please check by means of a leak detection spray
if the extension kit is leak-tight. When using the forming gas leak detection package, please check if the
extension kit is absolutely leak-tight by means of the forming gas leak detection device.
4. Use of the extension kit for leak detection on air conditioning units
• Position the turning knob of the test valve on the pressure manometer vertically upwards.
• Fit the 90 cm low-pressure hose blue to the hose connection of the unpressurized pressure regulator for
bottles.
• Connect the quick action couplings to the empty air conditioning unit of the vehicle but keep it closed.
• Adjust the correct working pressure on the pressure regulator for bottles.
• Open the pressure regulator for bottles.
• Open the test valve by slowly turning the turning knob to the right.
• The hoses of the extension kit are filled with the test gas at a ratio of the preset test pressure.
-Please perform a leak detection test on the extension kit during first commissioning
• When the HD quick action service coupling is opened, the high pressure side of the air conditioning unit is
filled with the preset test pressure. By opening the ND quick action service coupling the air conditioning unit
is also filled with the working pressure which is preset on the pressure reducer for bottles on the low pressure
side.
• After complete filling of the air conditioning unit (test gas does not flow any longer...) turn the turning knob
of the test valve vertically upwards and close the bottle valve.
• Now you can unscrew the 90 cm coolant hose blue from the test valve. The system remains under pressure
and indicates pressure losses on the pressure manometer whereas it is possible to use the test gas bottle for
another application.
• After having performed the test you can carefully drain the pressure remaining in the air conditioning unit by
turning the turning knob of the test valve to the right.
